Mines the same, I think it's just caused by hard water deposit's when washing the car, never tried it but white vinergar is supposed to help remove them.

Looks like salt which will stick to the insulation as the water dries out. If you live near the sea there's plenty in the atmosphere, damp mornings, warm engine are ideal conditions to create a build up.

I get the same but near the window washers i put it down to the fluid in washer tank when sprayed on window Love command drive position

I was getting quite a heavy build up around the windscreen washer jet, put some aerospace locking wire round the jet/pipe connection which cured the problem |
