Tailgate won't open on switch

Hi
Have an issue with my 2011 RRS. Its a single piece tailgate that wont open from the switch inside the car or from the remote fob. When you press either button it clicks and sounds as though it releases but no motion. using the button on the tailgate (just beside the number plate lights) does release and open the tailgate, so no damper/strut issue. It also closes ok using the button on the tailgate.
Can anyone help please
