I've come to ask for your opinion on some scary news. My 2007 RRS TDV6 comes from overhaul with engine oil change, gearbox oil change, axles and transfer case. It has traveled 390,000 kms and I maintain it every year.
However, my mechanic alerted me to fragments found in the oil filter. I have read the horrors of crankshaft failures and I would like your opinion. The car drives very well and no suspicious engine noise. Except for clicking noises at cold start.

If you still have the old oil get it sampled in a test lab, having the material identified is a starting point.

I did not collect the old oil but I did recover the filter.

Try flushing the filter with new oil with the hope that small particles of material in the filter is captured in the sample and tell the lab to identify?

Yes very good idea, I will also help myself with a brush.

I have to go on vacation and do 3000 kms over 2 weeks. Do you think I'm taking a risk?

Personally, I wouldn't drive the vehicle.

The glitter could be white metal from crankshaft bearings, get it tested.

Doubt its from the head, but as stated white metal bearings is possible, could be lots of things but I think it would be pretty noisy. I would not like to be using it until you get a diagnosis or at least get another oil change or at least a filter change to see if the new filter has anything. If nothing, then it gives you peace of mind for your holiday. You don't want it to be a really expensive holiday. Is this metal attracted by a magnet?

You are right, I would like to disassemble the filter myself, but I am afraid I will not be able to put it back correctly. Especially at the level of the nipple. If you had a procedure
