RRS dreaded EPB fault

Hi All.

Spent the last few weeks on and off trying to fix my EPB which has the flashing red symbol and the switch is inoperable.
Decided I would replace the discs and pads all round and inspected the rear shoes which had plenty off life but a sticking knurle adjuster but I managed to remove the old discs clean the shoes and install new adjusters and discs adjust correctly backing the knurle off 8 clicks after locking the brake shoes to the discs.
Next job was to access the EPB above the rear diff behind the spare wheel.
first removing the spare wheel and then the bracket holding the EPB. This has
2 bolts at the bottom of bracket on either side and then 2 nuts up top holding the EPB to the bracket.
You can then unhook the EPB and remove the bracket.
Access is made easier if you twist it around so the front with the hex screws is facing the back of the car.
With the screws and front cover removed I inspected the mechanism and the emergency cable had not been pulled so both ends were still connected.
With the battery disconnected I tested the motor by connecting 12 volts to the terminals on the EPB motor and it pulls the cable to put the brake shoes on when wires reversed it released the brake shoes.
Unfortunately when all back together I still have the park brake fault flashing up on the dashboard and no response from the handbrake switch.
I did buy the Sealy EPB tool but this did not clear the error message off the dashboard.
Can anyone confirm if I need another diagnostic tool to clear the fault or if the circuit board is faulty inside the EPB?
Looking at lots of different diagnostic testers out there but not sure which one will clear the error message if that is what is stopping it from functioning.
Regards Mark

Strange your getting no response when activating the switch,, have you checked the fuse for the EPB.? or even the wiring for any signs of damage. Flashing light indicates a fault on the system rather than adjustment issues I think,, not sure if it requires a reset of any kind after maintenance but the tool of choice for doing this would be the IID tool as used by most people on here,, I think it's one of the few that are designed for the RS. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Hi..
Checked both the 5amp fuse behind the glove box and the 30 amp in engine bay and they are both OK.
I thought it may be the parking switch so swapped out but still no change.
I can not see any broken or damaged wiring at the switch and epb connection.
Power must be getting though to the EPB because when your plug the Sealy tool in the obd you can make it cable reset and cable unjam.
So power is getting to the EPB motor.
I suppose I am guessing without a decent diagnostic tool.
Was looking at the icarsoft LR2 can anyone recommend this?

Mark

The IID tool is often talked about, and can be bought new from people such as Dan at Duckworths LR dealer. There are 2 versions, the newer ones are bluetooth to your phone, and I think the old ones are plugged into a laptop (never used one so just going on what I see here). They also come up second hand for example, and I understand they have to be registered to your car at an additional cost.

Drop him a line and I'm sure he will talk to you about it.
I had a terminal EPB fault on mine, and fortunately the warranty paid for a new one. Good luck

Hi.
Just tried that with ignition off and on and it does nothing.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi All..
The icarsoft lr2 arrived today so when I got home from work I plugged it in and let it do its stuff.
It came up with an error code U2002.
Tried to clear the code which it did for a split second and the the flashing error lights returned .
Spent half hour on Google which pointed me to the Discovery 3 forum which had people with the same fault as mine.
Looks like a communication problem between the EPB switch and the EPB module itself.
Either switch itself or wiring between the two.
As i said I swapped out the switch so my next point of call is the wiring.
Apparently it corrodes in the NSR wheel arch I assume behind the lining.
Will check this out over the BH weekend and report back.

FIXED..
The fault was a broken wire about 6 inches from the plug in connector at the EPB.
Stripped back the tape and the plastic conduit to give myself some room to piece out the broken wire (also replaced another one that had stripped insulation and looked like it may break soon).
Re-taped the wiring and wrapped some old garden hose around the wiring for extra protection because it looks like it wears either side of the EPB bracket.
Wish I had bought the icarsoft tester sooner would have saved me buying a second hand module but looking on the bright side I have gained the knowledge how these work.
Thanks for all the comments and I hope this helps others

Old thread i know, but no point starting a new one. I'm in the same position, however, i cant figure out how to access the EPB? Would i be right in assuming the vehicle would need to be in offroad height? would that give me enough clearance? although, i have a rounded not on the bracket I've been fighting for 3 days !!
