Hi all, hope everyone is well.

So a newbie here and as is the way we often find forums when we are stuck for the first time.

on my 2011 the EPB decided to cease on the other day! Manual release didn't work so I thought great, new module needed. So after battling with the screws on the bracket and giving up, i decided to remove the discs to have a look and work backwards as such.

Anyway, when removing the passenger side rear, I noticed the wheel was moving freely....however, the drivers was stuck solid, it took a fair bit of bashing the disc to free it of the handbrake shoes. Upon inspection, the handbrake shoe level had seized!! So the screeching noise form the EPB must have been where it was trying to retract the handbrake shows to no avail.

So I think i've found the source of the problem and hopefully the module won't need replacing. The only confusing thing though, is the handbrake shoe lever, was seized on what i think is to be "off" so the hand brake shouldn't have been on. If it was stuck on off, how would it seize on the discs?

I've got a copy of the BodsyBrake bible so will follow that when reinstalling new handbrake shoes, but wasn't sure about the lever being stuck in "off"

Sounds like you've been lucky,,, depending on how you look at it,,,, at least both sides weren't siezed solid and you've managed to get the discs off. The screeching noise will be coming from the plastic gearing inside the module,,, trying to pull on a none moving cable, it maybe the adjuster has wound up too far causing the brakes to size. Whatever it is clean and lubricate moving parts and make sure the adjusters are free to turn and wound back, then adjust correctly and hopefully all will be ok. 2010 RRS, TDV8

So I have managed to changed the driver side shoes, however, on the passenger side, it seems the handbrake cable is retracted to the "on position". When I pressed the EPB it made the screeching noise. Would I need a scanner tool to "unjam" the EPB module?

I did pull the manual release if that makes any diff?
