Panoramic roof

I have a rattle on my car, which is getting worse, most obvious when warm, icy mornings are quiet.
It is currently with the service department, who have found it is the front of the panoramic roof coming loose and they will need to book it with a glass company.
Has anyone had the roof removed and refitted, it looks like quite a tricky job to me. I have seen robots fitting one on a Mercedes production line, the robots were impressive with accurate amounts of glue and spot on accuracy for placing the glass, not sure humans will be as good! 20 RRS P400e HSE Dynamic Eiger grey/Ebony - Gone

I had endless problems with mine (MY18), although it tended to break/rattle when it was a bit warmer (ie >12C). The roof was removed several times - big job as it involves the headliner being removed and a specialist company to help out - and the dealer never got to the bottom of it. It was only a few months old so I contacted JLR in Coventry who were brilliant. After they got involved, it was finally fixed but not without a lot of back and forth over a couple of months. Eventually IIRC it was traced to a faulty seal that needed lubricated. They did that and it’s been fine ever since. There’s a thread on here somewhere about it

Total pain in the botox,
Make sure the noise is sorted before the headlining goes back in and if you can , get a company who have done the job before Thumbs Up

Another reason to opt for the nice solid metal roof. One fewer thing to go wrong. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I won't buy another landcover that's got a sunroof or panoramic roof in it purely for these reasons.

Have had 6 Land Rovers and wouldn't buy one without a sunroof, never had a problem with any of them, and they make the interior a much nicer place to be in my opinion.

I would think you've just been unlucky and hope Land Rover can resolve it for you.

Just an update.
Car taken in for the panoramic roof, bit of a problem in that the glass company failed to turn up for nearly two days, though more of a problem for the member of the service desk who collected my car and left his, but car returned and rattle gone, roof looks great and some software updates done as well. Unfortunately somehow they had stopped the blind from automatically opening/closing when the car is unlocked/locked, so taken down for a reset, came back even cleaner than before, inside and out, and amazingly the whole of the insides of the wheels had been cleaned, even I don't do that. 20 RRS P400e HSE Dynamic Eiger grey/Ebony - Gone

A bit late now, but yes I had my fixed panoramic roof replaced because the seals were cosmetically wrong. The glass and the seals come as one unit so the whole thing had to be changed under warranty. I have suede cloth headlining and during the replacement it got creased, so the whole headlining had to be replaced which invoked removing the windscreen.

What a palaver!

But they did a fantastic job; all credit to Land Rover and their glazing contractors.

Don’t be afraid of glazed roofs, folks. The need to replace is rare and if they are replaced people know what they are doing. FYI, the cost of warranty work on mine for this came to approx £6k worth... yikes. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Cedric,

You may need to reset the options for the auto blind opening in the dash menu’s if you’ve had a software update.

Thanks scrumps, but I did check the option was ticked, and I tried the reset shown in the online handbook, plus the service desk chap called by and also tried a reset, but it seemed to need a laptop or something. 20 RRS P400e HSE Dynamic Eiger grey/Ebony - Gone

Hi, and thanks for welcoming me to the forum. 2020 RRSport HSE dynamic. ( Pano roof ). Any-way have this annoying rattle from which I thought was the roof / blind area. Had a fumble around myself but couldn’t diagnose anything so put the car into local dealership ( Stirling ) according to the tracker they test drove it for 2.2 miles and sat in the workshop for 1hr. Received a text msg next morning to say “ the workshop is finished with your car and is available to collect. Went in next morning to collect only to be told “ we’ll have to book your car in for 2 days. I asked why ! The technician has had a look at my car and will need to remove the bonded pano roof / headliner etc and get a “ glass specialist “ in. To say I was gutted was an understatement. The receptionist could probably tell as I left without making an appointment for fear of saying something I would regret later on. So once I had calmed down it’s booked in for 10 days time. I’ve asked for a full report of findings and repair.

Sounds like the exact same issue I had. Sad that they’re still making defective cars over 2 years later... It was a Censored to get fixed and took umpteen goes and eventually the involvement of JLR in Coventry but they did get it in the end. Something to do with the lubrication of the seal the glass roof sits on if I remember correctly. Good luck and persevere. It drove me nuts until it was fixed!!

Hi Haggisman, a faulty or dry seal would create a squeak or creek, where as mine is defo a rattle like a loose cable / clip and I’m dumbfounded that the only way to access it is by removing the bonded pano roof.

The problem I encountered sounded like a rattle, I thought it was a wire or cable rattling in the roof, it was quieter on cold mornings, turned out it was the glass roof, the mechanic showed it in the video where he was able to replicate the sound by pushing a corner of the glass up and down. The solution was simply for the dealership to have the glass company remove the glass and re-glue to the roof, and it has not rattled since. 20 RRS P400e HSE Dynamic Eiger grey/Ebony - Gone
