Vibration under light load

My TDV8 has developed a slight vibration when under light acceleration or gently climbing a hill. It is beginning to get worse and is occasionally becoming apparent whilst cruising at between 40mph and 50mph. Of course its appears to be an intermittent fault as I can't always notice or replicate it. Quite annoying on a recent 40mile trip to the extent that I did not stray above 40mph at any point just to avoid the possibility of it happening. And as it appears to be getting worse I am starting to get worried. If I slip the car into neutral whilst doing say 45mph the vibration still remains so I don't think its engine related.
The vibration can be felt through the floor, the seat and the steering wheel. And SWMBO notices it in the passenger seat.

From my layman's viewpoint I would have said something like an out of balance prop shaft or maybe a worn universal joint somewhere.
Any thoughts anyone?? Robin

Initially I thought "torque converter" but if it does it in neutral then it's not that. Otherwise, a wheel out of balance can cause a speed specific vibration. Or, as you say, the prop shaft centre bearing might be worth a look at.

I would also go round and check all of the wheel nuts are tight. I had a couple of loose nuts on a rear wheel once and the vibration was very noticeable. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I managed to get it to my indie briefly yesterday afternoon for a test drive. Fortunately the intermittent fault wasn't that intermittent and my mechanic could feel the vibration.
He thinks possibly but unlikely to be torque converter but reckons that, in his experience, a gearbox flush has been know to sort this. So as its booked in in early Jan for some work on the suspension compressor, he'll do the gearbox flush whilst they have it there. It was last done in January 2018 (by them) some 26,000 miles ago. Seems a bit too frequent but got to be worth a try. Robin

If it is the torque converter then a flush should help with the symptoms. But if the torque converter clutch has started to judder then it's "on its way out". As I understand it, the clutch becomes contaminated and that's what causes the judder. The flush doesn't remove the contamination but it reduces the rate at which it will accumulate as the fresh oil doesn't contaminate it.

Hopefully the flush will give you a good period before it needs more work doing. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hi,
agree 3 years and 26k does seem a bit early for another flush, unless it was starting to get ready for work and it was just caught in time to extend its life a bit Confused

what type of "Flush" was done before
a. full transfusion
b. sump plate and filter with all oil replaced
c. dropped oil and filled back up (about 1/3rd oil replaced)
d. none of the above Laughing

My Indie described the last one as a Powerflush - cost about £250. Well if they do it and it doesn't work I'll be looking to them to look further and not slap one charge on top of another. I can get that sort of service at a dealer and I expect more from an Indie. Shocked Robin

Just back from my Indie. Cost of the Powerflush including an additive (?) was £277 and no vibration. If that lasts another 20,000 miles or so before I need to fork out on a new torque converter, then I'm happy. Especially as I'm not doing many miles at the moment. Robin

The "additive" that has been mentioned is most likely "Dr tranny" it's a friction modifier to help reduce shudder in torque converters,, normally add a couple of tubes when carrying out a flush. 2010 RRS, TDV8
