I currently have a 2011 Range Rover Sport Stormer.
90000 miles, everything works, drives lovely.
Keep thinking of moving to the newer style Sport but as its the wife daily and she only does about 5000 miles per year so budget isn't sky high.
TBH the ones in current budget are 2014 with high mileage, 130K plus. Are there likely to be problems with this sort of mileage car and would I be better sticking with current car for another year or so.
Asking for all opinions, good, bad or ugly.

Simple questions: what's the cost to change? Is it worth it?

What yours worth? (hint: realistically, not much). What will a replacement cost? Is that difference worth it for 5k miles a year?

If a resounding "yes", do it. If anything other than a resounding "yes", stick with what you've got. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yours looks good & you know how it is mechanically & if yearly serviced even though the 5k/year is not much, with regular oil changes should last for "ever". Would take her 10 years to get to 140k
Buying one at 140k, is opening a can of worms, could be good or could be bad. You need to find one with FSH with all items like belts & all fluids inc gearbox & diff changed when they should have been done at mileage rather than time as its probably around 7 years old, so 20k/year. Also cost to change, only you can answer that.
You need someone who has a car with big miles to give you some info rather than me, as mine are gone before 25k miles

I’d stick with your current car or I think your spending money to get a new shape car, but actually with those potential parameters your car is the better car. If those voices are overwhelming to make the step across into it then it’s your choice, but not sensible money. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

My only comment would be that a 5yo 130k mile car is likely to have spent a lot of time on motorways or main arterial routes, as opposed to short journeys which may not be sufficient to get the car up to working temp and thus likely to cause more wear over time.

Is it likely to be any more or less reliable than your existing car? Who knows, its all a bit of a lottery when buying a car anyway, although a new one comes with a warranty, which is what you are obviously paying for in the price.

I bought my RRS at 90k and 5 years old, not quite as much as the 130k, granted but still a fair few miles on a newish car. It has proved overall reliable in the 8 years I've had it other than the usual suspension bits of course.

I also bought an XC70 with 146k on the clock and similarly that has been totally reliable for 35k miles more.

I think in this day and age, mileage is less of an issue, certainly with a prestige car, than it would have been 30 years ago. I had a Skoda in the 80s that couldn't wait to fall to pieces and a Citroen that did both with no more than 50k on the clock.

The above is true, but it's not just engine wear you need to be concerned about. Suspension components, wheel bearings, interior leather etc. all wear with use. This includes greater likelihood of bodywork damage eg. stone chips through pounding the tarmac for a longer period of time over more miles.

I agree that it's always a lottery to an extent but you need to consider all factors, including service history, general condition, age and mileage.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a car with 130k on it, but each to their own as personal circumstances and preference for a particular level of condition and age will dictate what is suitable or not. Kev

I've owned a 2014 SDV6 Dynamic from new and have just hit 187K and in all this time apart form regular servicing it's only required a dynamic fluid pipe (from pump) replacing as it was very slightly misting and in Aug of this year the one valve cover developed the common cracking so I replaced both as they were a known weakness, cost me £520 all in, albeit LR MD wanted 2.5K to do the job!

As one poster has said high milers are likely to be motorway miles (as mine is) and therefore high miles on the motorway are a lot less wearing than around town stop/start.

Then again the L320 isn't a bad car either, I sold my 2007 HSE 4 years ago with 397K on it and it has now passed 450K and still going strong!

The 2 I've seen are both motorway miles, so not as worn as local journeys.
I have a company car for longer journeys, the wife has the RR as feels safer with the grandkids in.
In no rush to change so may wait a while
