Time to clean up handbrake mechanism?

I had the dreaded parking brake screech last weekend, and took it in to the garage yesterday. Nothing broken, but they have recommended a good clean up.

They have quoted me 6 hours labour. Does this sound about right?

If these people know what they are doing that sounds a bit much,, I had my indie service mine just to e on the safe side as I have been caught out rather expensively with this in the past. Discs off, cleaned and adjusted Epb,, couple of hours give or take when you know what your are doing. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks, I did think it seemed a bit excessive. Will contact another local independent garage to see what they think.

Happened to me a couple of months back, so after some advice on here, read BODSY'S BRAKE BIBLE. Its relatively simple, you just need to get both rears off the ground and follow the instructions. You can probably get away without a 32mm socket and use a lever against the threads to turn the wheel as required. Took me about an hour and a half and works absolutely fine since.

Cheers for the link, will take a look through. An hour and a half job is very different to 6 hours, as quoted!
