SVR Fuel octane sensor.

Hi all, Does anyone out there know if the SVR engine has a fuel octane sensor. If it doesn't it kind of makes no sense in me putting Super Unleaded in it anymore. Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on this matter.......

Cheers. 👍🏻 2010 RR 5.0 Autobiography

Many thanks for that it made interesting reading but didn’t really mention if the engine has or not a fuel sensor to actually recognise what octane fuel is going into the fuel system. 2010 RR 5.0 Autobiography

AS far as I understand, the knock sensor only adjusts the timing if if detects any knocking, ie if a lower octane fuel is used than recommended. An octane sensor will detect between the lowest recommended octane fuel and make adjustments if a higher than recommended octane fuel is used. Its not making timing adjustments through the sensing of any knocking but thought the detection of the higher octane fuel. 2010 RR 5.0 Autobiography

Hi PDC,
Below is the definition of how an octane rating is determined:

"The octane number of gasoline is a measure of its resistance to knock. The octane number is determined by comparing the characteristics of a gasoline to isooctane (2,2,4-trimethylpentane) and heptane. Isooctane is assigned an octane number of 100. ... Anti-knock agents may be added to further increase the octane rating."

A special "standard test engine" is required to do the testing. I have never heard of an on board device to determine the octane rating of a fresh tank of fuel.
But of course I could be wrong.
