Roof boxes, does anyone have / use one?

As above has anyone fitted a roof box to their RRS? I pick mine up this week and the missus is keen on us doing more camping trips. Rather than buy a small box trailer which was the original plan I have seen some roof boxes that are up to around 460 litres in size (our Volvo V90 boot is 490 in size so not far off that!).

I have heard of Thule and Exodus as brands of boxes but what do I do about the roof bars etc, if I have a Thule box do I need to buy Thule bars? Do I need genuine LR ones or do I go aftermarket presuming they are cheaper (not sure on quality differences).

Thanks

Not sure about roif bars...but i have a set of used bars. I think they are genuine LR ones. I bought my 2016MY last year and it came with them. I dont use them because I got no box and got no plans on getting one as I unfortunately dont have anywhere to store it when not in use.

Stuff you should know.

That Sport pictured above has roof rails. The system pictured attaches elegantly to the rail.

One can have a roof prepared for roof rails. That means a cover that can lift off to fit a rail.

Or you fit the a system to the roof, as I did. Pictured below.

Thule system pictured.
- first picture is mid install. But shows clamp.
- this 1st picture displays the wrong roof position. Follow the instructions carefully for distance from windscreen.

Rails cause some wind noise. Get a system that minimises that.

Any box will clamp onto any roof bar. 2022 P440e AB

After having roof bars on cars with rails and cars without, I’d get the rails fitted if I was going to use them more than once or twice a year. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

Thule bars with Halfords box, the bars are limited to 80mph and do cause wind noise, the box is limited to 70mph but not a problem as only used when towing.
