I'm sure the "average" car needs a touch of paint on the bumper, a few dings ironed out, couple of scuffed wheels refurbished, and a good valet. Advertising may cost a few quid.., but £2k??? Hmm! MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs |

Oh sure MDP, yes, I fully understand that, being a businessman myself. But most of those costs are fairly fixed week-to-week and dont specifically relate to your particular car. In other words, those overheads wont vary whether they sell 1 or 101 cars that week, so it would be a little disingenuous for that dealers to use that as exhoneration. To me, it's a straight margin issue, £4-5k, which you can put in your own back pocket with minimal effort ? MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs |

There you go Cliff, they dont need a £4-5k margin per car, nor clearly incur £2k in prep costs as they suggest. The trouble with dealers is that they give way below market value to buy your car, then charge top dollar at resale. That's greed in my books. If they gave a fair price for your old car, then sold it on again at realistic market value, we wouldn't deny them a modest profit, would we? Why don't you get a Glass valuation on line for £3.50. Which is the guide the Stealer will probably use for his valuation.
