Parking sensor problem.

To make my last post more understandably.......2006 Sport. Start the car, put it in 'R' and the red light comes on indicating the rear parking sensors are active........Start the car, put it in 'D' and the red light does NOT come on (unless I press the switch). So what could be the problem.....where to I look??!! Andrew Kennedy

You ask - did it work differently? Yes. If I engaged D or R when the engine was running, the red light on the dash would come on and stay on until the car was going at, lets say, more than walking pace. Regarding have I changed anything recently Yes and only had this problem since I changed all the rear sensors and the Sensor Control Box (the box found in the boot to one side). Further thoughts as to the problem?!? Andrew Kennedy

Changing the control box has resulted in this.
You will note the part number are different.

Are you sure the old one was faulty. If not, try refitting it

It sounds like you’ve gone from front and rear sensors to just rear sensors so I’d check the part number of the new box matches the old box as you May have fitted a rear sensor only version. Even the last letter of the part number could make the difference. 2012 5.0 SC AB

I don't think it works like that BP.

There was an intentional change made exactly as Andrew describes. There is a TSB.
And this changed the part number.

In any case the fronts do work. (just don't come on automatically when driving forward into a parking space like the early versions do)

YWC 500550 Front sensors always active below 10MPH
YWC 500313 Front sensors require switching on manually if driving into a parking space

The problem now is all the part numbers have superseded to the same number YWC500730 so unless you can obtain a good one of the very earlier one's YWC500312 (number should be on the unit) I'm not sure you will be able to change it back to how it was originally.

Cheers

I think it will depend on his actual vin no. to be fair but you maybe right on a 06 car, YWC500312 up to Vin. 5A908869 YWC500313 from Vin. 5A908870 to 6A958740 and YWC500550 from Vin. 6A958741 to 7A099999 from then on it's is the latest number YWC500730 but his original unit should have the number on it if he still posses it.

Cheers
Col

Hi Andy. Regarding the Parking Aid Module that seems to be the fault with my front sensors. My VIN SALLSAA146A934562 The original Module is numbered YWC500313. The one I was given as a replacement is numbered TWC500730. I haven't changed it back to the original one yet, but I'm thinking you are going to tell me the replacement one is incorrect for my 2006 Sport?!? Very grateful for all your input!! Andrew Kennedy

As I said both YWC500313 and YWC500550 are now obsolete and both have been replaced by YWC500730 so you have the correct current replacement, assuming you mean YWC not TWC.

Cheers
Col

Thanks for that Col. Although my original part has been made obsolete, I'm inclined to put it back and see if it cures the problem. When Land Rover make a part obsolete and offer a replacement, presumable they consider the replacement performs better than the original! Cant think why else they would make such a change!! Andrew Kennedy
