L494 TPMS question

A follow on to my spare wheel adventure!

The wheel I bought didn’t have a TPMS sensor in it, so I have bought a genuine one and had it physically fitted but the wheel is back in the boot, where I don’t believe there is a sensor pick up.

My question is, do they have to be coded or anything to work or do I just bung it on the car and go for a drive to be found? Joined the X5 45e club

Best way to find out is let the pressure out of the spare & see if it comes up on the dash,(spare tyre low pressure) If it does then it is fine to go,pump the tyre back up till you need it.Their is a sensor detector in the boot for the spare. Andy.

I don’t think I have that, when I had my space saver on and no spare, I’m sure the only alarm was for the wheel position. Joined the X5 45e club

Mine came with the full size spare so it will have already been programmed,I didn’t realise you had a space saver before, space savers don’t have the sensor fitted. Andy.

May need the bead broken again on the tyre so you can read the eight digit I.D code on the sensor unless you happened to write it down first before fitting it.

Just wondered if you actualy ran the spare wheel on the car until it recognized the sensor and then swapped it back as a spare if it would retain the code for it, just a thought as not sure there is sensor aerial thing for the spare.

Cheers

For future reference, my new TPMS monitor didn’t need coding to the car, just a quick drive and it sorted itself out. Just don’t know if I have a boot sensor, maybe just let the tyre down and try it Joined the X5 45e club

Chaps, how do I check if my spare has TPMS fitted?

I realise now after someone asked me that I've never seen a warning/reading for the spare. --
