Short term Car Insurance

I have recently found out about a company that will insure you to drive a car for short periods of time. I won't post the company name or web site but surely this is a way for scumbags to get car tax without having longterm car insurance - saving them money. I can see the advantages of this for law abiding drivers but I'm sure this set up will be abused. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

You can do this with annual insurance anyway, surely? If you get your car insured, pay for a year's cover and then cancel it a week later, you'll get the remaining months on the policy refunded to you (I've done this a couple of times when changing from one car to another).

True! Embarassed I'll shut up now. Still a useful thing for legitimate users. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Absolutely... a couple of my neighbours spend 6 months here and 6 months abroad, so would be useful for them for example. So you're not so stupid after all! Laughing

And having used such a service to cover a vehicle for a short trip the faxed cover note has wording on it to the effect that it is not acceptable for the purposes of gaining Road Fund Licence for the vehicle. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

The site I looked at said you could use it to get Road Tax.

I might as well post the site - www.tempcover.com 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Thats interesting - i used these guys www.insuredaily.co.uk

Whose website says:

Quote:

Can I get Road Tax with a cover note?

The DVLA and UK Post Offices will not accept insurance certificates downloaded from the Internet for road fund licence purposes. If it is your intention to purchase insurance solely to obtain Road Tax, we suggest you contact our sister company, XXXXXXXXX or via their website at: XXXXXXXXXX for an annual quotation.

Impounded Vehicles

You will be unable to use an insuredaily.co.uk temporary certificate of insurance for the purpose of recovering an impounded vehicle.

However this is an Internet only company with no formal certificates sent out so perhaps thats where the difference is. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit
