Well you don't need to book it in, drive to the place and wait.

But its not free either.

I'm sure your bike ECUs used to be involved in as much of the bike's operations as the ECU in your RRS is... Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

i mean they do pretty much everything, the maps, ignition timings, immo etc etc. if the ecu is dead the bike is pretty much useless.

In terms of Engineering, it's generally bad practice to centralise complexity. In a car, functions are distributed across multiple ECUs.

However, there will be some more engine control functionality in the ECU of the RRS compared to a bike, for example, emissions controls, turbo vane and boost control etc. Kev

it was actually Censored me off so much i was pretty close to carbing the bike and basically stripping off just having a simple setup. the bike in question is a touring bike so i didnt want the hassle of it randomly dying.

If only we could do similar with our diesels and stop them from suffocating themselves! Kev

Chuck in alternator control, talking to the transmission control box, transfer box control box, rear diff control box(if active one fitted), suspension control box, linking to the central junction box, supplying a regulated voltage to lots of sensitive systems and other things besides. It's no wonder the ECM has its own cooling system! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
