Fuel cap not twisting tight

Hello all,

Firstly an introduction - my name is Dan and I've just picked up a late 2016 RRS AB at the weekend. It's got the 2017 updated interior/screen and was an ex-LR demonstrator so has been fully specced. I'm absolutely over the moon with it Smile

Quick question: I went to put some diesel in and found the yellow round fuel cap (not the exterior door flap) to be loose. I did not have to twist it counter clockwise to unlock it nor can I twist it clock wise to lock it into place. I've done a search on here and on the wider interweb but this just seems to bring up issues with the exterior door flap not locking (or the opposite).

Am I right in assuming that (a) the cap should twist tight to maintain a good seal and (b) this filler cap is therefore ready for replacement?

The current situation does not seem to trigger any fault codes or impair the car's performance in any way.

Thanks for your feedback - I am looking forward to spending more money on the car Wink

Regards,

Hi Dan

Welcome to the forum. Regarding the fuel cap I have just tried mine and to remove it, it turns anti clockwise half a turn with no resistance and then stops, it then turns another quarter of a turn anticlockwise and then comes off. To put it back on it turns clockwise three quarters of a turn and then stops, if you try to turn it any further it just clicks but doesn't tighten anymore. This has been the same on all my previous LR cars.

Hope this helps

Dave...

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for the welcome and the feedback - I appreciate it.

I've just checked again and the cap is definitely just twirling around freely without catching at all. I've tried pushing it down slightly without any success so I'm picking up a new one from my local LR dealer (£19 so not too bad). Speaking to the parts chap he reckons the spring mechanism inside the cap has failed ...

Cheers!

Update: problem solved

Update: The problem has been resolved Smile Got my new fuel cap from LR and this one locks properly! In the end the problem wasn't the spring mechanism but broken "teeth" on the ring.

Cheers!
