Oman 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

@mrluke

Yes I paid for it before it was even Head Unit Reloaded.

I've run it with a 1+ 7Pro and had issues with the phones battery management which kept cutting me off. Changed to a custom ROM (Pixel Experience) and all good. My Pixel 2XL has issues, but I think that's because it's running Android 11 Beta.

It sometimes lags but I think that's more to do with poor LTE coverage in Oman. Also I believe there are issues with some Chinese Android units where if both WiFi (or WiFi Hotspot) and BT are being used concurrently for data (music, maps etc) that the connection speed plummets as it is a combined chip. I know that people report Joying units have this problem.

EDIT: Another thing to try is to install older versions of either HUR or Android Auto as quite often new versions of AA cause bugs with HUR until Emil releases an update himself.

Hope that helps.

Im quite a newbie to "Android Auto" does it not allow you to write messages / whatsapp ?

It doesn't allow typing only dictation via voice which for me is Censored .

TBF using Android Auto on and Android head unit is actually limiting. With choice apps you can get WhatsApp, SMS etc working on your headunit paired with your phone.

I've got the voice button to the left of the steering wheel working now that I've removed the OEM headunit completely, but it isn't reliable. Basically, once I use it once it keeps activating every minute or so cutting off the music.... Hopefully find a way around that, at least for commands like "next track", "navigate to home", "call Joe Bloggs", etc...

Could you do me a favour and post some pictures of AA working on your head unit, I've yet to find a photo of it on a Tesla style vertical screen, as Tesla doesn't permit AA integration and couldn't find any from Volvo or Polestar in full screen mode. Images of Google Maps and YouTube Music would be awesome, but any music player would be helpful.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

Correction, apparently the full version does support the tesla screens. I will get that and repost.

Just received the USB android adapter.

Defiantly a lot faster than the emulated version.

Unsure though why i would use it . I imagine phone might work through it... But it seems so limited with apps !

MrLuke,

Can you post a link to the one you got, if it's better than HUR wouldn't mind ordering one and giving it a try.

Cheers

Thanks.

Shame it's wired as I love the convenience of wireless.

I agree it is limited with apps but it does cover the basics very well. Like I meentioned with some work you can mirror AA by using different apps and have more usability. 2006 RRS S/C CONSTANTLY under modification...

Guy,

Any chance of some information on the app/apps that allow whatsapp/SMS to show on an Android HU.

Thanks

I couldn't get it working with other apps, but once installing AA through Headunit Reloaded I now have SMS and Whatsapp read and reply.

My unit literally just stays on Android Auto at all times now.

One major annoyance, I have to wait for the headunit to fully boot up before plugging my phone in, other than that it's great.

I used Tablet Talk for SMS on tablets and head units. Not great but works. Another option is MySMS, this replaces your phones SMS app and can be used in tablets as well.

For WhatsApp I'll have to dig up the app I used, but there are a few in Google Play.

That's the only drawback of AA. I'd love to be able to have AA as the default launcher with quick launch to connect to WiFi.

Today the keyboard popped up in AA, much easier for address entry .

How do you mean? Within Maps or when trying to make a voice input and it popped up to clarify? 2006 RRS S/C CONSTANTLY under modification...
