United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Santorini Black
New owner with 'restricted engine performance' query

Hi there,

I am new to the Range Rover sport world and I have a 4.4 HSE Sport. Everything seems to be spot on with the car but there is a small niggle which comes and goes. It will beep and flash up reduced engine performance on the dash however there is no noticeable loss of power and the car drives spot on with plenty of power.

Usually 5-10 minutes later it will disappear and the car is non the wiser. This usually happens within 15 minutes of driving the car however other times I can drive it for 30 minutes and nothing pings up. Today however for the first time the engine did stall going around a corner in a car park after driving for about 40 minutes but started back up again straight away. Prior to this I did notice that on light throttle the engine was very slightly applying power on and off (when you put your foot down the power is on straight away). Smile

Anyone have any suggestions? my gut feeling is to replace the MAF and air filter.

Thanks,
Peter

Your gut feeling should be to have the fault codes read, and a fault diagnosis carried out before replacing parts unnecessarily Thumbs Up

Where that little yellow mark is put a screwdriver under the metal clip, lift up & pull the front pipe off & flap is there, you can spray in with throttle body cleaner to help it.

Thank you everyone. Unfortunately it didn't store any codes so I don't think replacing the MAF sensor would really work at this stage. I did notice that it was a new-ish part (looked to be in good condition) so it may have already been replaced recently anyway.

What I have done so far is to replace the air filter and use electrical contact spray on the MAF sensor (let it dry before reinstalling but be careful not to touch the wire). This did seem to help a little bit but it did ping back about 30 miles later and then go off after 10 seconds when coming of the motorway and driving around town.

I did what other people have advised above and used a cleaner on the throttle body (opening the flap at the same time). I did notice a lot of dirt and crap come off which I then wiped away with a old cotton shirt. I might of sprayed too much in because it was hesitant to start but then it started no problem. I will let everyone know how I get on but hopefully cleaning around the flap might help with this warning.

Thanks all,
Peter
