Do you have any means of reading the error codes from the vehicle? --

There is a pivot where the cable goes into the gearbox, on the right hand side from memory. Although its behind an undershield, it is exposed to muck and water and stiffens up preventing gear selection. If it is this, jack it up, take off the shield, spray with a penetrating oil, or something like WD40, and work it till it frees off. Then spray with a silicone spray. This will get you going till you can replace it, fairly cheap part.

Hi its an electronic gearbox so not a pivot or anything sticking landrover assist says its something to do with communication to tell it to go in gear it happened a few months back and the AA came out to recover it and took it to landrover dealer who said when I collected it that they couldn't find anything wrong as it was fine when they went to diagnose it ?

but when the landrover assist guy came out he told me that they wouldn't want to try find the fault as it would take a few hrs to diagnose it and the warranty people don't pay the dealer to diagnose stuff they only get paid when they fix the problem how true that is I don't know

I was wondering if any one has had the same problem and if they new what the fix was

the landrover assist just told the vehicle with his diagnostic pad to disconnect the battery and it worked after that and is still working so he said most likely if it happened again and I was in the middle of no where if I was to disconnect battery and reconnect it it would reset the ecu or something along them lines

also there were no error codes when he plugged it in

Hi Dazzerboy

You are not alone. I had the same thing happen on Monday. Couldn't get D or R. AA disconnected the battery & then all was OK.

AA saw a fault code "software fault" but dealer couldn't see any fault codes, so couldn't do anything about it. I now carry a 10mm socket wrench in the car in case it happens again.

There were two other strange symptoms while the car was in fault mode: no power steering, and I could not turn the engine off if my foot was on the brake. AA experienced the same, so it wasn't just me getting confused. I also had a warning while waiting for AA, with engine off "vehicle not in Park". These may have just been the software crashing.

Did yours get resolved?

K

Hi again. I asked AA and they sent me the call out report, which includes the fault codes. It may not be too late to get yours.

I've sent mine on to the dealer, but I'm not expecting anything from them until it happens again.
