Indicator/DRL lights not working after jump start

Hi Guys, wondering if any of you can help me. Last night I got in my car (L494 RRS) after not having driven it for a few days to find that I had a flat battery. While it was cranking over the lights all kept flickering. I managed to jump start the car with my wife's car, however, during the drive I noticed the left indicator was flashing really fast.

After parking up I tested all the lights and the front passenger indicator and daytime running lights no longer work. I looked through all the relevant fuses in the 3 fuse boxes but couldn't find anything related to indicators or DRL.

I understand that both these lights are LEDs. Could I have blown the LEDs in which case the whole headlamp would need to be replaced or is there a fuse/relay somewhere I can check. I do not have a relay diagram.

Any help would be appreciated as I am fearing the worst case right now.

i think its the BCM that controls the lights but i'd do a battery disconnection first and see if it re-boots everything..

Before you do anything, give the battery a full condition/charge as a low charge cause these issues even after jumping. It could also be that your battery is shot and needs replacing. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Thanks for those suggestions guys. I will am about to order a new battery and will be putting it in as I still have the low battery warning. I'm hoping this will resolve the issue. Will report back.

Hi,

I had a low battery warning on my last L494 AB. When LRA turned up it took him about 30 secs to work out the earth strap on the battery under the spare wheel was loose.

Tightened up, one decent run later and problem never reappeared.

New battery arrived today so will be installing it tomorrow. My plan is disconnect the existing one and leave it a few minutes to do the 'reset' and also check the earthing strap. Although my battery is about 6.5 years old which tends to be the life of the average battery so it is due for a change anyway.

Is there anything else I need to be mindful of when changing a battery? I know the basics like disconnecting negative first and connecting back last. Seen a guide on youtube and access looks fairly straightforward.

New batteries are not necessarily fully charged so it is recommended that you put the new battery on charge over night (at least) before you install it.

When installing it unlock the car and open the bonnet, then leave it for 20 min or so to enable the car to completely shut down all its systems, then change the battery, neg first etc. You will have to reset the windows and sunroof if you have one.

If you search on here you will find chapter and verse if you need it.

PS its bloody heavy!

Good news and bad news. Good - manage to fit the battery and go no adverse affects. Windows and sunroof worked as normal.

Bad - my initial problem with front left drl and indicator not working still exists even though I did a hard reset by touching the positive and negative wires together for 30 seconds.

I need to check the earthing strap thats in the wheel arch for that headlight. But does anyone have any other suggestions on what else it would be? Could this just be a case that the LEDs are blown inside the headlight?

Another thing I have just noticed is the the DRL are no longer on automatic on the working side. They can be manually tunred on so do work on the drivers side.

These symptoms seem to be pointing to the BCM being faulty. Any ideas where this is located and if it can be reset?

The BCM is behind the glovebox, there’s not much you can do as it’s solid state. Have you read any DTCs? 2012 5.0 SC AB

It's not throwing any DTCs that I can read with my standard diagnostic tool. Is this more of a dealer job to read those codes?

I would have thought a generic reader would give you some DTCs but maybe not very specific ones. 2012 5.0 SC AB

Just thought I'd give everyone an update. It turned out that the issue was I blew the indicator and drl lights so meant I had to replace the whole headlight unit as these were integrated into the unit.

Land rover wanted 4 figures for a new unit so ended up buying one second hand off ebay. I tested it by connecting it to connector plug and it worked. Going to try and fit it this weekend which I think involves taking off part of the bumper as well.

If anyone has any guides or advice it would be much appreciated.
