MY18/MY19/MY20 Security

Hi Guys,

Have JLR fixed the key cloning/jamming/repeating issues since MY18?

Came back to my car today with the wing mirrors open and a cable and some sunglasses missing from my car.

I'm 99% sure I locked it though, so was wondering if anyone knew how susceptible the facelift cars are to the cloning or jamming or repeating that happened a lot pre-MY18.

Thanks in advance! Non JLR Vehicle

The article about the new system is dated August 2019 and does not mention the Sport.

Strange as I assumed they did something when they changed the key for MY18 onwards but maybe not! Non JLR Vehicle

Hey Dobby, thanks for that, very vague true to form for JLR.

I will get in touch with someone at a dealership and see if I can get some facts as I doubt anything specific will come from JLR's Contact Centre!

If anyone else knows anymore please chime in!

That ADAC report seems to say from 2018 onwards the keys started to use UWB for the Range Rover and Discovery (RRS wasn't listed), so maybe thats something?

There's also a slightly more up to date PDF in German here;

https://assets.adac.de/image/upload/v15795...jtusem.pdf

These two articles seem to indicate from 2018 onwards its not possible to relay or clone a key but I'm not sure as my German isn't so hot and Google Translate is never spot on;

It does seem strange that the Sport is not mentioned.

You might have lost a cable and sunglasses but empty out everywhere on the car to check that they haven’t fitted a miniature tracking device in the cabin which would lead them to your car/ house . Suggest you look at https://xyfindit.com/ For the devices I mean 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have a 2019MY RRS and contacted JLR about a year ago to ask if it was fitted with the system that overcame relay theft.

They told me that the RRS is fitted with UWB (ultra wide band) technology from MY2018 onwards, which means it’s the same as the various other JLR models that are apparently theft proof (or theft a bit more resistant anyway)

Hi Tim

I have given the car a good clean inside and outside since the event, didn't think much of it as they'd only taken those two items and missed an iPad sat on the rear seats (case matched the seat colour). It was on a main road in the park so I'm guessing they just went in and out.

I didn't notice anything in the cabin or boot and I do clean most of it thoroughly - any other places they might put it?

Is this a common thing they do? Non JLR Vehicle

Thanks for that HaggisMan might have been me thinking I pressed the button then and didn't and they just saw the wing mirrors open and thought lets have a rummage!! Non JLR Vehicle

DM, I don’t know if it is common but when I mentioned these transponders over on Defender2 one guy came back with that was how his Defender had been stolen as the car park CCTV showed the thieves drive straight up to his car then drive off in it. As they are magnetic they can be stuck anywhere inside or outside the car that is steel or steel alloy . I suppose one way to look for one would be to go close to the car with your Bluetooth settings page open and see if you find a new device that you don’t recognise on the list of items found. When my Countryman was delivered there was a similar device supplied with it that looks like a key ring that you also get with your Mini that is a key/baggage tracker - As an experiment I left it inside my Defender and went 18 miles away into town and was Still able to see my Defender on the Mini Connected app............ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Will double check then!!

But with it being an MY19 car, my understanding is they can't actually steal it or open it, was probably just me not checking I'd locked it correctly?

Or have they got ways to get around the newer keys/systems now? Non JLR Vehicle

I would assume that short of employing a security guard to watch over it 24/7/365 there will soon be a way to get around any manufacturers security system. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Parked up in the park and did a scan on my phone from inside the car, no bluetooth devices came up on my screen at all - so I'm guessing there's no tag left there.

Didn't even know that was a thing!! Non JLR Vehicle

Highly unlikely in reality...
The only thing you may have been susceptible to was the use of a blocker...by placing something within a hundred yards or so which effectively amplifies a loud signal which effectively drowns out the signal from your key whilst you were trying to lock it...
Hence you may think you locked it but it is super important that you see the mirrors fold back... I always super lock my car by pressing the lock button twice and watch and make sure the mirrors fold in ...

I suspect unwittingly you vehicle was left open and they just opened the door and quickly rummaged through...
