PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY 2010 onwards

Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you have had your RRS stolen by thieves using scanners to pick up the signal from your smart key to unlock your cars?

Have most of you turned off your keys so they no longer emit a signal? or do you a use a faraday wallet?

I've turned off my key, so have to find the key each time and push the unlock button. Really miss the keyless entry. But i would kick myself if it got stolen by thieves using scanners etc.

I live in east London, so prob not the best area. But i'm not sure how desirable the L320's are now in terms of stripping and selling parts etc unless its stolen just for a joy ride.

Thanks for any help / advice. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

Thought about turning it off, decided the feature was more important than the relatively small chance someone scanning my key.

I keep the key at the opposite side of the house to the car and keep the spare in a Faraday pouch.

Features are there to be used, not disabled.

Both of the cars in our house are keyless. We keep the keys in the middle of the house, well away from the front door in a neat little metal box. It's does the job. Kev

Thanks Kev,

I have heard stories though of car thieves just driving around during the day, and if they were to see your car parked up somewhere like example a pub car park, they can even scan from there own car & pick up the signal. But i'm not sure how true that is. That would have to be super strong scanner and the chances of being in the same place as some car thieves randomly driving around with a scanner is incredibly slim i guess.

Thanks again 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

I think a higher risk is the interception of the key fob RF signal when a button is pressed, which is a much stronger signal than passive keyless signals. I never used the key fob buttons with my L320, I only ever used keyless. And same today with me]y new wheels.

It you can over think these sorts of things... just use the car, enjoy keyless, buy an RF blocking ouch, and carry on. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

I'd read an article on this type of theft, typically the thieves hang around a supermarket carpark waiting for an owner to drive home who they follow. The use a jammer to prevent the car locking and as most people are locking it as walking away, in this case more occupied with arms full of shopping then they don't notice it not lock. That article suggested keyless was a more secure option, but I cannot remember if it touched on pouches and that type of theft. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

What I noticed was with mine which is probably the same for everyone, is I can unlock/lock the car with the key fob from at least 25 metres away from the car, if i use the door handle/buttons the fob has to be within a couple of meters of the car, which is why i never use the fob as figured there was far less chance of signal being intercepted by not using the fob. Always watch the mirrors fold when locking to make sure it's locked as wll.

Cheers
Col

I have MY2012 and tried every YouTube trick to turn off the keyless entry, I can't get it to work. Is there a way to toggle this with a GAP tool? Otherwise next time it's at the stealer I'll get it done. 2018 Telsa MS

Its really quite easy to disable/enable keyless entry on the more recent models:

https://www.facebook.com/lespotts4wheeldri...120106801/

However, it doesn't work with the older KVM modules. I had to get a new module when I needed a replacement key.

Good luck to all.
