Smoke when cold??

Loads of smoke comes from under the car when cold started. Ive been told that it is part of a quicker warm up system. Surely this cant be normal. It looks like it comes from a silver box on the left hand side of the engine bay and vents underneath the car. Its a 2008 TDV8 with 79k miles on the clock. Is this right? Any techies out there that can enlighten me?
Cheers Pete

Normal, visually more noticeable when it’s colder. I’m sure it kicks in anything less than 5 degrees C. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

If you fancy treating your car, have a remote receiver fitted to it - there is another thread running here about the best mods to your RRS. Then up to 30 mins before you plan to go out you can start the FBH from the comfort of your house whist enjoying a cup of tea. When you get to the car, the cooling system has been warmed up so that the engine stars easier and there is less strain on the engine. It also means that the cabin heater starts working sooner. Note this is not a cabin heater like more modern cars have but just warms the cooling system.

If I remember rightly it cost me about £350 a couple of years ago. Robin

Thanks, did look at them but Ive spent enough buying it and it's a luxury I can do without at the moment. Besides summer is coming...ha!.....so may consider it next winter. Anyway, I have taken early retirement and this is a present to myself Smile so if it is too cold or miserable outside I wont go Thumbs Up
