2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey
Transfer box

Hi all
I’ve not long got myself a 2010 RRS and today I put it into a main dealer for a health check,
All was fine apart from they noticed visually a minor oil leak from the transfer box that will require further investigation.
Is this a common issue on these things, have any of you had this experience and does it cost a bomb to rectify?

Thanks in advance

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

A leak from an output flange oil seal isn't that unusual. Cost will depend which one is leaking. The transfer box has to be dropped and split as the flanges are installed from the inside (at least the front one is, anyway). This can require the internals being removed depending on which oil seal is being replaced. It's not a big job but there is a bit of time involved, obviously. It's the same transfer box for all versions. Depending on mileage it could be worth putting a new transfer chain in.

Do yourself a favour and use a decent indy rather than a main dealer. From Burford there is James French 4x4 at Standlake. Easy enough down the A40 and off at Witney. I've been using them for several years and they're straight up guys. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Nice one RRSTDV8 😊
I know of James French 4x4, they seem pretty decent.
Maybe I will put it in to them for further investigation.
Much appreciated on the advice,
Thanks very much 😊
