Warranty Direct

So even though I’ve only just bought, because I only got a years approved used warranty, thought I’d have a look at WD for after it ends, just to gauge price.

I didn’t realise you can arrange a WD policy up to a year before the start date, and they base it on your present mileage rather than projected start date, so bearing in mind they work in 10k brackets it makes it £500 cheaper (plus any increase they might throw in for being a year later) for me than if I had waited.

So I’ve taken 3 years, uncapped labour, no parts contribution, £100 excess for core (engine and transmission, turbo etc) and safety systems (suspension, steering, brakes) for £2k, which bearing in mind it will start with the car being 6 years old and over 50k mikes, I thought wasn’t too bad, I’m sure I will need bushes and compressor doing before I get to 9 years old and best part of 100k plus I have peace of mind for crankshaft, turbo and the active roll system. Joined the X5 45e club

Scotland 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Firenze Red

There does seem to be something goig on with WD pricing, last year when my warranty was due for renewal I initially got an all in quote of just under £900, but a couple of weeks later it had jumped to about £1300 for the same level of cover, it was more expensive than the LR warranty (needs all in, 0 excess, uncapped labour etc. to make it a fair comparison). I've tried a few times since and it's still the high rate.

At the same time I did take a 3 year WD warranty for my wife's Evoque which I've just had to claim on for a broken spring. Ok it's not a huge claim but there has been no issue's at all, I had to pay for the bill and I've just sent it away which I assume no issue's as I've had the approval email.
One thing I'd mention for anyone who has never claimed before is that they will pay for the vehicle recovery to the garage, but I'd recommend contacting them before doing anything - this could be tricky if sitting at the side of the road. I wasn't aware of the recovery bit until I'd already hired a transport trailer and delivered the Evoque to the garage, and then I called them. I've put in the hire receipt but as it's not on the approval email then I'll possibly not get it paid (only £36 so not that bothered).

Edit - I've just done an updated Warranty Direct quote. Everything added, 50 - 60k miles, 0% parts contribution, £0 excess, uncapped labour (only way to compare against LR warranty) and it's coming in at £1637.76 for 1 year. 3 Years is £4176.28. Of course I can get this down but removing sections or adding excess or parts contribution, but this then wouldn't be a direct comparison with the LR warranty. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
