United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE Santorini Black
LR Extended Warranty vs Warranty Direct

Hi All,

I've read all the forums on here about warranties.

I've only had my 2012 RRS SC for 6months it came with a LR extended select warranty which is about £87 a month inc break down.

But it runs out in Feb and if i let it go i can never get it back.

I was going to continue with it. But from what i've read on here its awful. And it seems the majority on here have gone for warranty direct!

I've just got a quote off them but it's coming in super high.

Its just the core warranty, (it looks like i really want the core plus + safety system so that it includes the clutch, and suspension) for 1 year excess, at £50, uncapped labour, 0% customer contribution to parts, is £297.15 per month.

What have you all done with customer contribution to parts option and labour option to be able to get it down to £80 a month?

Any help would be hugely appreciated, as i was struggling just with the £85 a month for the LR select extended warranty cost. 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

ask them (WD) if that's the best they can do. I found them very flexible with their pricing. Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

Bank it in an instant access cash ISA. Tesco at 1.25% is a good middle ground one.

Hmm, ours is an SDV6 so maybe has better "provenance" with WD (but I doubt it) Paying all up front for 3 years was less than the 1 year renewal with LR warranty. I'd guess they are loading you heavily for wanting to pay monthly ? 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Hi Duc,

I just did re-quote: with only core ticked

1 year
labour: capped
excess:£250
contribution to parts: 50%
10 monthly payment £120
1 payment £1,208

3 year
labour: capped
excess:£250
contribution to parts: 50%
10 monthly payment £308.12
1 payment £3,081

If i take excess to £50 & parts to zero percent and labour uncapped it comes to £933 x10 payments and 1x payment of £9,337 for 3 years

I'm currently on a LR select warranty with assistants at £89.50 x10 = £895.50 per year. (but i'm guessing this covers way less than WD standard core only covers)?

The extended LR warrenty is £136 with assistant x10 = £1,360 our year

I rang up warranty direct as well to try and get a better price on the phone, but he wouldn't budge from the web price. I guess they don't need new customers as much as they did.

I was going to just let the LR warranty laps because i can't really afford it. And try and save the payments like knwatkins & DrRob suggested. But my local indy specialist who is doing the 120,000 service next week, when i asked him today about WD vs LR warranty he said LR is so much better and they never quibble over claims compared to WD and the rest. And said because of the car you have he said you would be crazy to give up the warranty on this particular car. I was always told the 5.0 sc was a really sold engine and has less probs than diesels!

Now i'm completely lost again, i guess all i can do is have it serviced and if it needs anything major & the warranty covers it all that might be a sign to try and keep it going somehow.

Thanks to everyone who has replied 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black

AH - 120,000 mile service - if thats the mileage you're at then I think you're shafted for most warranty providers.

In the words of Corporal Jones - "they don't like it up em" and consider anything over 100K miles to be a bit of a risk. ours is super low mileage and we did it just before the vehicle turned 7. The "8th" year also has an impact I think.

I'm guessing but something with you and yours car is loading it more than 3 fold against our quote 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Hi Duc750,

Yes the car is now 8 years old so that is prob stinging me, but it's only done 63,000miles. But been main dealer serviced since new every year so its now on it 120,000mile service. Because of the 8 years even thought its only done 63k.

Hi Landphil, just matched your below options, and mine is coming in at £248.18 per month. Please see screen shot.

So your right, it must be the age, the 60k miles or the V8!

Either way, its the LR warranty or nothing at all at the moment Big Cry 2012 RRS HSE 5.0 SUPERCHARGED Santorini Black
