Oil change advise please

Hi , I run a 2008 rrs tdv8 with 110k on the clock I've owned it for 5 years and generally speaking had regular service carried out . Annual mileage is 5k spends most its time on the drive. Last oil service was at 104k in August 2018 and yes I didn't realise how long it had been since the last service but the question is , having only covered 6k in all that time should I get the oil service done asap or can I relax and wait until the summer or even autumn before I would need to change the oil . Thanks in advance for your thoughts .👍

Even though you haven’t done much mileage I would recommend still changing the oil at least every 12 months or less,I get mine serviced at LR dealership every 12 month to keep up with the SH & even though I only do about 6k a year I always change the oil 6 months after service especially with the oil dilution on the SDV6 engines. Andy.

Definitely change it. Service intervals are based on mileage or time, whichever comes first. Kev

It can’t deteriorate that much with age given some of the service intervals on newer cars these days. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

if you do the services yourself then it really is not worth thinking about running more than 1 year

for your low annual mileage,,,, if that is due to short journeys but with daily/regular frequency then absolutely get it done annually

if the car is parked up and hardly ever used, then id say you have some flexibility

i personally couldnt sleepif the oil service was over due Whistle
and i change at half interval period Smile 2007 TDV6 RRS HSE..now gone

I also do low annual mileages and have always serviced my cars annually, the RRS is my first diesel and was going to do the same but are you saying 6 monthly oil changes? Steve

i'm not sure why the OP is asking the question. For the cost of a couple of takeaway curries, it's a no-brainer to have the oil changed once a year even in low mile usage. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I make my own curries and pay for an oil change. But maybe I'm just weird... Laughing 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I also don't think a year or two would make much odds to deterioration in ideal conditions, but reality is most vehicles are not in ideal conditions.
I guess if an owner was to only do a few long runs a year where the engine is up to temperature for some time, then store the vehicle in a climate controlled atmosphere then the oil will last just fine, but the likelyhood is a low mileage vehicle has had many cold engine starts (dirtiest time for oil) and rarely up to temperature for long periods (to get rid of absorbed moisture) so it'd probably be best to change the oil. Or have the oil analysed but this will be a chunk of the cost of an oil change anyway. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine
