2009/10 intermittent headunit failure

it's a 59 plate rrs, with an annoying intermittent dead stereo, usually works fine but on the odd occasion ( though becoming more frequent ) the stereo makes a 'pop' sound and goes off, usually about 5 mins into your journey.
sometimes it won't work right from the get go, no radio, cd, or aux will work and won't work again till the vehicles been turned off for some time. turning it off then on again doesn't work.

the display on screen works and is lit all the time but no sound, could It be the amp ?

thanks in advance if you can help Very Happy

I think you need to describe the fault with a little more detail. I think you’re saying that the head unit is working but you have no sound when any media is selected. If so, it is likely MOST or AMP related. 2012 5.0 SC AB

yes Brit, you hit the nail on the head, as far as I know the amp is located under the passenger seat, any idea where the MOST is ?

I’m making an assumption that being a 2009/10 model year, it will be similar to the 12MY, (that is if you have a face lift, not a late registered pre face lift) if so, the Tv module is under the driver seat and the surround camera module is under the passenger. The Amp is in the boot behind the left side panel. The MOST is the fibre optic ring that runs from head unit to all the audio ancillaries. If this gets damaged, the Audio signal can’t get around so to speak. More often than not though, it’s AMP related so start by checking your fuses and work from there. 2012 5.0 SC AB

yes it is a facelift model, it doesn't have a TV module or surround camera set up, I'll check in the boot at the weekend, the noise it makes if it goes off when your driving is kinda like when you plug a microphone into a turned on amp and it makes that "BLIP" kinda noise.

thank you for your help Thumbs Up
