Hard downshift

So I noticed lately my 2016 RRS Diesel has a rough downshift from 2 to 1 when I approach 5mph range just before coming to a full stop. Sometimes a clank type noise also happens.

a few searches seem to show that a few have this issue and a software update apparently is supposed to fix it.

any ideas what’s going on?
