instrument cluster digital displays not working

2007 RRS TDV8. Everything is working well including the instrument speedometer, rev counter, fuel gauge and temp gauge. The digital driver information screen is sporadic, as is the mileage display. The indicator flashing dash lights stopped working today as well on the dash but all external lights work. Any ideas? New instrument panel or bigger electrical fault?

This may be well wide of the mark, but it’s been reported here that a faulty brake light switch and/or rear brake light bulbs do throw up some strange electrical anomalies. No doubt others will be along with better suggestions but these are cheap to check/repair and worth a try if nothing better comes up. Robin

Thanks for your reply. The brake lights are all working including the high level spoiler one.

apologies for doubting you Easters- I had a small fiddle with my brake light switch this morning, it seemed to produce multiple lights on the dash. I've got a genuine one ordered so hopefully this will help. Thanks for the advice!

Haha. No problem. Hope it sorts it but still no guarantees. But that’s what this forum is all about. Thumbs Up Robin

New brake light switch installed, new battery and negative lead. The fault remains. When I start the car first thing in the morning the dash works perfectly, then after a few mins the mileage, info display, indicator light display disappears and appears sporadically. several error messages sporadically show, check brake pads, low washer fluid etc. several audible warnings appear. it's all very sporadic! vehicle performance including suspension works perfectly. Is next step diagnostic plug in?

Had a similar issue with mine and after months at JLR they finally diagnosed a faulty instrument cluster - new one fitted and all been ok since. Worth doing the diagnostics and if it throws up numerous communication faults between various modules in the car I would be confident its the same issue on yours.

Great- thanks for the reply. I'll likely take it to MMP in Dundee for diagnostics if I dont manage to miraculously fix it. I'm thinking instrument cluster as well.

One thing for sure. A faulty brake light switch WILL throw cruise control and automatic gearbox faults.

Hmm. Its a shame that didn't work. Looked good for a moment.

Yeh, I think Disco Mickey in Dundee might be your best bet now. Best of luck. Robin

I've been looking into instrument cluster repair- it looks like a good value option. Has anyone experienced this?

just had instrument cluster out, with loom connected and pressing on back of cluster the faults come and go. its likely a defective PCB in the cluster.

I've looked into this in the past but never actually used the service. I came across an outfit called totaltronics based in Rugby. They seem to get a good review and you can mail your cluster to them which would be up your street seeing that you already have yours out.
I would be tempted to give them a ring and explain the problems your having,, if they can help out it would be a lot cheaper than a new unit. 2010 RRS, TDV8
