12 month ownership review TDV6

Hi all, after much deliberation I finally made the plunge, and purchased a 2006 HSE 2.7 TDV6 exactly 12 months ago.
I thought I'd share my experience, owning the RRS for the past year.
I knew these cars need constant maintenance, so I didn't expect not to spend any money on it.
The car is used as a second car, and has clocked up just over 7000 in my ownership.
In the past 12 months I've spent just shy of £5k on the car. Mods and maintenance.

Here's my story,

As soon as I got the car home, I knew it needed the autobiography kit.
Why not buy an autobiography to start with Question
A clean genuine autobiography was around £14k, I only wanted to spend £8k.
Shows you how much prices have plummeted, in the past year Big Cry

All the necessary parts were gradually sourced from powerfuluk
Along with Glohh rear lights, 2012 tailgate conversion, badges, LED Lights etc etc

Now onto the maintenance and repairs,

first issue after a couple of months, battery light on.
A replacement Denso alternator and excide battery.

Second issue, knocking from underneath whilst accelerating.
Rear prop shaft centre bearing was Censored the front section Uj's were pretty sloppy as well.
Replaced front and rear props

Third issue, rear brake pipe burst over the rear axle. All new rear pipes and flexi's replaced

A full service; oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, axle oil, transfer box oil, gearbox oil filter and electrical sleeve.

The latest issues are a hole In the AC condenser, and a squeak from the o/s front wheel which Is yet to be investigated.

So how do I feel about the car,

The driving experience is like nothing else, the luxury feel is great.

The negatives,

23mpg bit on the thirsty side, £570 tax. I was hoping depreciation wouldn't have been so sharp.
The horror stories of the TDV6, are still in the back of my mind, and I do drive it accordingly very gently.

The plan is to keep it another year, oil pump and cambelt next month.
Then swap it for a newer shape petrol v8.

I'm hooked I love the brand faults and all Very Happy

Pics to follow in the daylight Cool

Looking at the list of things that you have repaired, I wouldn't view any of them as anything other than due for a car of that age. The only thing I think is possibly a design issue is the AC condenser. I've had two fitted, over 5 years, and I do think that the slot in the front bumper to allow air to the radiator/condenser could also be allowing too many stones to hit the condenser. Maybe Confused

Rolling with laughter I rag the tits off mine when I get a nice bit of empty/wiggly A or B road Very Happy
Had it for over 7 years and 65k miles, no grumbles bar EGR valve (blanked) and a turbo hose.

How much did the A/C condenser cost to do? I think mine has gone and want to fix it before next summer.

Had mine 2 years come December so far I've replaced

lower rear wishbones
brake pipe front to rear
ARB bushes F&R
door lock
inter cooler & hoses
new tyres all round

Not bad for a 17-year-old car
though it does have some unsolvable issues
parking sensors don't work replaced sensors and looms no joy, so I'll just pull the fuse and live with it.
glass tail gate won't open also If it ain't broken down it soon will

Gandalf - try replacing the switch for the rear glass, they are renowned for going as they get water ingress and rust.
