Government Change of heart on EU6 diesels?

Interesting item here
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/a...-cars.html

Of course there are still the issues with JLR’s diesels with snapping cranks and oil dilution, but the end of the diesel world isn’t here yet......... and let’s face it big SUV’s are better suited in the right circumstances to having a big diesel under the bonnet than a gas guzzling V6 or V8 petrol engine emitting many more CO2’s than a good diesel. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

This was my biggest gripe with the policy. This blanket maligning of all Diesel engines. I’m all for cutting down emissions and making the air cleaner - it’s about time we all started behaving responsibly if we want to decelerate the destruction. However, tarring all engines new & old, efficient & inefficient with the same brush is lazy, ill-informed and frankly ridiculous. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

After reading through the article it also seems to be a government initiative to try and revive the UK car industry which has been heavily weighted toward diesel. I wonder who the drivers for whom diesel is best will be?

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..
