My13 L320 tailgate opening failure

Hi Guys I know there's threads on here regarding tailgate switches but this appears to be quite specific to my12/13.
Our car has had a periodic problem with the tailgate failing to unlatch from any of the switches (fob, gate or dash). It appears to be heat related.

The car is under LR warranty so has gone into Guy Salmon in Northampton where it's been in and out several times.
They have raised a tech query with JLR as the replacement boot switch they have ordered for it doesn't fit the car. Their proposed solution is to cut the loom and solder in the new switch to the car. Now I'm not sure I trust your average JLR tech with crayons let alone a soldering iro so do we think I should let them loose ? 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Personally I would be asking for them to get the correct part and fit that, especially as it’s a warranty job.

Why would the loom need cutting and soldering? If the part is so different that it needs a part loom, I’d be asking why!! 2012 5.0 SC AB

Apparently the my13 cars have a different tail gate switch and actuator that isn't listed in the parts catalogue! I'm not quite sure I buy that reasoning personally. 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

If you are referring to the tailgate external switch situated between the rear number plate lights, it's certainly listed in the parts list as I replaced mine way back and my cars a MY13. I think you will find the switch is the same as Freelander 2 as well although the part number has been superceded from LR020997 to LR079909 there are also some extra wires in the new type switch which are not needed on the sport and can easily be removed if required. I do have a spare switch here and will double check that I have the right number. The latch and motor are also listed in the parts list, so I would be a bit sceptical about it not being listed on a 6 year old car.

Cheers
Col

Sadly nothing would surprise me with this dealer. It's only in there as they're close.
Biggest bunch of idiots ever to swing a spanner. Second only to the supplying dealer (land rover Nottingham) who let it go out with 23 seperate faults that I found in the first week. 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

i replaced my my12 with a new external boot switch

didn't solve my problem, mine when it gets hot sometimes only opens a cm.

I think its the electronic struts and maybe a sensor inside them.
