Scotland 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White
2013 RRS Autobiography

Hi

Just purchased the above with 50k on the clock from a LD dealership, the previous owners paperwork was still in the car when I picked it up yesterday and I noticed that it had a engine and turbos replacement at 34k, invoice shows £9000 ouch.

Should the dealership explained this or have I won a watch and got a 6 year old car that’s only done 16k.

Any advice welcome 👍

£9k sounds a bit cheap for a new engine from Land Rover - figures of £15k have been mentioned hereabouts. If the previous owner's details are there, it might be worth a friendly call to chat about the work done. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That’s the net total, I note on the invoice the turbo unit prices were 1300 & 2150 but were only charged net price of £400 & £850 so I’m thinking it may have been done under a warranty or something.

I have just spoken with the previous owner and the full cost of the replacement was £22K, the owner had to pay 40% hence the invoice price.

It turns out that the 2012/13 engine had a crank shaft failure issue that was very common. the new engine is a 2016 so all is good.

thanks for your advice

Good to know you've got a proper new engine and not a bodged attempt at a recon job. Thumbs Up

Sad to say that all 3.0 diesels are at risk of the crank issue. Even recent ones have had the failure. And the failure has never been "very common" even on the older ones. There are a lot of 3.0 diesels out there and not that many suffer the failure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Big difference between gross and net figures on the turbos, even allowing for 20% VAT and any discount ? I had both replaced in mine plus belts on my 2012 and it was cirxa £4k/body off job, at a specialist indy.
