Although they are rated at 850Kg the design load is probably 1.5 (factor of safety) x 850 = 1275kg so you should be fine
In actual fact, for a wheel, the factor of safety is probably a lot higher than 1.5 as it has to take shock loads (potholes)

That won't help in an accident claim and the insurance company figure out aftermarket wheels which are under rated have been fitted. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'm sure I have seen genuine 20" L/R rims rated at 860Kg. but can't remember which car they came from, but sure it was a sport though.

Doubt the insurance company will check wheel load ratings. For a start how do they find out the manufacturer. If they are aftermarket, the owner would have to let the insurance company know before hand & at that time they would have to request the owner can provide proof of load ratings if they were concerned. Never heard of an Insurance company with that technical knowledge when quoting for insurance.
I was not going into the legality of the wheels, someone said there were instances of buckling & all I was saying that the wheel loading should be ok. How they are made is another story

I am one of millions in that case,
The wheels that are 860Kg rated came with the car when I purchased it,
and they put them on the car,
so I would with all the pictures and video from the dealer have somewhere
to turn, should the worse ever happen..

I have never before this thread considered or understood what Load Rating was all about,

And I would imagine that 75% of the Uk's population if not a lot more don't know what
their wheels rating is let alone what it needs to be..

Ive seen tyres on cars in LR dealerships with wrong/lower load rated tyres fitted.Someone I know someone has not long since purchased a electric/hybrid whatever they call them RRS & fitted 23" aftermarket alloys from Khan the crook & fitted 107 load rated tyres which they should be 108,,not sure how ins/warranty would affect it in the case of a claim. Andy.

I may be wrong, but I think the point both Andy and Wayne were making is that, even some of the dealers haven't got a clue what load rated tyres/wheels should be fitted to the vehicles they are selling irrespective of the model.

That’s what I’m getting at Col,ive seen L494 which should have 108 or above fitted with 285/35r22’s with only 106 rated tyres & the 23’s folk are fitting are only 107.In the case of a accident & the insurance were to check the tyres rating who would be liable if the dealer sold it with those tyres or would they argue the case & say they weren’t fitted when it left them.Its something I always check with being in the tyre game but joe public probably wouldn’t have a clue,it’s like I get plenty of cars coming in for tyres with no locking nut as owner didn’t check when they bought it. Andy.

The load index will be recommended by the minimum needed but also by what is available. If 106 is needed, but the manufacturers only make that size in 108, 108 is what will be recommended. That’s why different sizes have different recommendations despite being fitted to the same car. As 23” wheels are not factory spec, there won’t be a recommendation.

As well as the load index, XL (rather than SL) makes a difference. More importantly, so does the tyre pressure. A lower index tyre can be inflated more (within limits) to cope with higher weight.

A 103 XL tyre at 2.5 bar supports 775kg
A 99 SL tyre at 2.5 bar supports 775kg

(Both are used on the RR Evoque in 20” guise)

A 103 XL tyre can be inflated more than an SL tyre - at 2.9 bar it would support 875kg.
A 99 XL tyre would only support 690kg inflated to 2.5 bar, but would support 775kg if inflated to 2.9 bar.
