Yamaha Fan is a She - very well connected in the German motor industry. The thread consists of people who support the use of 2SO and those who don’t. Those that use it provide evidence (not proof) of the benefits they find, those who don’t provide abuse.

It is a very entertaining read but people must decide for themselves.I have been using 2SO at 200:1 in all my diesels for the last 10 years and have only seen benefits.

Remember 2T is designed primarily for air-cooled engines that WILL operate at higher surface temperatures than a water-cooled 4stroke diesel. Since it survives these temperatures it will be evident in the exhaust and could therefore reduce the life of a DPF.

200:1

Something to bear in mind tho' is that Two Stroke engines incl. outboards/strimmers/Motorycles, usually run as rich as 50:1 ( My Yamaha outboard runs at 100:1).
Most users in diesels state they use at 200:1, producing nowhere near the same burn characteristics/dilution.

Shocked a 90 page thread on 2T 😁 ! Opinions vary clearly...

I've always been a bit neither here nor there in terms of 2T. Pure laziness not wanting to faff about measuring a 200:1 ratio is probably why I haven't bothered, the millers eco max lets you dose the right amount in the bottle and overdosing rich on it does no harm where I have never been that clear what happens if you o/d on 2T. Maybe nothing or maybe not, perhaps someone with better 2T knowledge could advise ?

200:1 in 82.3litres (Disco3/4 tank) is 0.4litres of 2SO per tank.
Use an old household plastic bottle. Add 0.4l, then mark the side at 400ml/800ml, and you have two doses when you need it. 2011 MY D4 HSE

The YouTube channel Project Farm has done some fascinating analysis in fuel additives if you have a rainy Sunday afternoon.

There’s heaps like this too:

 L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

A small overdose isn't a bid deal.

Get the ratio out by a massive amount isn't a good idea

It’s pretty difficult to overdose by any significant amount. If you put a litre in per tank full you really wouldn’t notice, except the small increase in cost.

In the thread mentioned a member put some petrol in his tank in error, rather than drain it he filled up with diesel and a couple of litres of 2SO. All was fine. Personally I wouldn’t have done that but it worked.

The ratio of 200:1 is a guide not a rigid rule. In countries where diesel quality is dodgy people put more 2SO.

Someone earlier expressed a concern about DPFs. If you have one, and most people do, then you should use 2SO at the standard JASO FC, its on the bottle. If no DPF you can use JASO FB - it’s cheaper.

Well, Yamaha Fan convinced me, 2 stroke is in & early results are:-

As quiet as a Rolls Royce um...……..No

Faster than a Ferrari um...……..No

Over 100mpg um...……...No

BUT, as long as it acts as an upper cylinder lubricant & keeps the valves clean, I shall be happy. Unfortunately I'm not going to be whipping the head off every couple of weeks to check, (well hope not)
The placebo effect will make me think its doing the biz, so Very Happy

I've been using Redex diesel additives for the last year or so based largely on the fact that they've been going a long while (like Wynns) and thought I noticed a slight improvement in mpg. I use it at every fill up and buy it in Tesco when they have it on offer at £2 per bottle (which does two tank fulls) so £1 per tank full. Only time will tell if I have made any difference (better or worse) - currently on 87500 miles.... Robin

i concur with Eaters, i do exactly the same and my RRS has completed 144k miles (400 miles a week)and the engine purrs beautifully, no issues at MoTs and fuel consumption has been steady. I use Redex and Wynns pending on deals available ever snce I took ownership nearly 4 years ago
