JLR to go All-Electric by 2039

From a presentation by the CEO:

Jaguar will be entirely electric by 2025, and will have e-models of its entire lineup by 2030. It aims to be totally "zero tailpipe emission" by 2039.

I get it for Jaguar and probably some of the variants of RR, eg Velar and Evoque, but for the RRS, Discover, and Defender? Are they going to abandon their ethos of rugged, go anywhere (especially anywhere where there are few charging stations) or they hope to satisfy that requirement as technology develops. I don't think it is there yet for that purpose. So, mixed feelings about this announcement. Let's see what happens in reality... MY21.5 HSE 221KW D16

Land Rover are going to introduce 6 all-electric versions with the first being in 2024. They appear to be looking to have 60% all-electric sales by 2030. If they intend to sell in to markets outside of the UK/EU then they'll need to maintain fossil fuel versions of some of their products, especially the FFRR and the Defender. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Wont affect me much, a 2025 diesel would be in my price range by about 2030 and probably good for another 10 years after that. I'll be a drooling spoon-fed wreck by then. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Now chemical engineering is not my field but last time I checked Petrol was still a distillate - all the other distillates that are part of the process will still be required so I can't help feeling that by creating an excess supply of petrol and diesel we are rather "boiling the wrong egg" here 2012 SDV6 HSE (technically its hers)

Entirely possible that the other stuff that is currently distilled from oil will be synthetically produced instead, or alternatives found. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I understand that Jags will only be available as battery powered from 2025.
