How Quickly Are You Using Your Data Sim.

Hi All,

This is mainly aimed at MY19 owners that now have 500Mb of free data (Generously Given By JLR) Rolling with laughter and how quickly you are using it.

I managed to use mine in 6 days. Granted a fair bit may have been used with the initial setting up of things while on the drive (I wish I had connected to my home WiFi to do this) and I know that Google Earth will use a fair bit, but I have used that for all of 5 minutes total.
So are there apps running in the background all of the time, can some of these be shut down to save on data usage.
I managed to use 155Mb on a short 30 minuet trip without using Google Earth for the maps.
Has anyone else found this 500Mb woefully inadequate or are you finding that you have hardly used any data at all.

I know that it is early days, but within 6 day I found myself asking this very question......

Cheers,

I collect mine in a couple of weeks & was wondering the same. What happens when you have used your allowance, and is there still an option to insert your own card? I'm currently on a plan with 5oo mb of data which has always been fine, but for some reason in May, whilst on holiday it zoomed up to 1.2gb, which was outside my plan and cost me quite a bit. I don't know why it increased suddenly as I hadn't changed any settings, but now it's back to within the 500 mb allowance.
kind regards

As soon as you have used your data allowance, you just simply loose the ability of the car having it's own WiFi, I'm just sharing my phones data with the car now which is dead simple to set up.
You do still have the ability to put another SIM card in if you also desire...... Thumbs Up 2010 RR 5.0 Autobiography

Thanks for the info. When I get the motor I may come back to you for an explanation of how to share with my phones allowance.

I only received my SIM card yesterday, just used 24mb setting it up and to the best of my knowledge I have now turned everything off in SatNav connectivity settings.

As I live in an area with very sparse mobile coverage the system will be next door to useless but its annoying it consumes mb like there is no tomorrow. 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. Arrived 3rd September 2018
