United Kingdom

just pinched this post from another forum;

OK, some stats, all from Evo's 100th edition. Fascinating reading:

The figures (globally) are split as follows:

Power Generation - 24%
Transport (including ships, cars, planes and lorries) - 14%
Industry - 14%
Domestic Heating - 8%
Released by rotting waste - 3%

Which countries are the biggest polluters?

USA - 20%
China - >15%
UK - <2%

How Much CO2 comes from cars in the UK?

Transport accounts for 22% in total, with cars at roughly half this.

SUV's are the main culprits, right?

SUV's account for 5% of the cars and only 0.5% of the total CO2 output of the UK

If all SUV owners in the UK exchanged their car for a Pious, what would happen to emmissions?

CO2 emissions would reduce by 0.3%

What effect does the UK motorist have on Global CO2 emissions?

UK motorists contribute to 0.22% of global CO2 emissions, with UK SUV owners producing 0.008% of global CO2 emissions.

Are UK emissions rising?

UK CO2 emissions have reduced by 5.7% since 1990. By contrast, China's emissions have increased by 89% menaing it emits twice the amount of the whole of Europe.

What is the single main cause of CO2 pollution?

Electricity generated by burning natural gas and coal

No-one builds coal-fired power stations do they?

Yes, China is adding 562 coal-fired power station in the next 8 years. One every five days. India is planning 213, the US a further 72. Each will produce an extra 4,000,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. Just 18 of these will equal the output created by the UK motorist.

If you could stop UK CO2 emissions, by how much would world CO2 emissions reduce?

They'd still rise. Within a few months the expected level of increase in Asia would outstrip our annual 600,000,000 tonnes production

What would happen if every UK motorist drove a Range Rover V8?

30,874,000 cars were registered in the UK in 2005. If they were all RR V8's and each covered 12,000km per year total CO2 emissions would increase by 10%, world production by 0.2%

Surely aviation is another source of CO2?

Aviation is just responsible for 6% of UK's CO2 production. This figure doubled between 1990 and 2000, at current trends it will double again by 2030.

You won't believe who is the biggest contributor to pollution. "It" pollutes more than all transportation modes...combined! If I tell you will laugh, and I'm not joking here.

Take a guess before looking down.

I thought the topic was cars, and SUVs specifically, not "man made".

Eh, what about juicy steaks?

Vegetarians are so screwed up. How much time do you gain by passing on red meat? a month or two? Well, I'm willing to give up 3 months of my end just to enjoy red meat.
