I was checking the gearbox oil level the other day, I started to remove the drain plug, when oil started to come out, so I quickly refitted the drain plug. Should this happen, as I thought that with the car on the level, I should be able to unscrew the plug, and nothing come out.
(I've recently had a full oil flush/change done with the machine that changed the oil rather than just drain it.)

Needs the engine running, and the gearbox oil at the correct temperature to check the oil level

So I should get it warm, leave it running then, unscrew the drain plug, and nothing should come out ? (just getting it straight )

Don’t undo the drain plug or it will empty,,that’s why it’s the drain plug.

its not just "warm" but a Specific range of temp for the oil

It doesn't need to be hot.

In this hot weather just run it for 5 mins.
Run it thru the gears and back to park and then check level with engine running
