Prices are plunging .....

The same dealer who has been "promising me" £40k trade in for my TDv6 against the TDv8 has now "clarified" the deal by saying he can only give me £37k. He says the book value of TDv6's has taken a real knock in December '06 and January '07 so nothing he can do etc etc. Ironic really, 'cos my TDv8 was originally scheduled for a 3rd December delivery.

Confused Sad Rolling Eyes

Has anyone else experienced this sudden depreciation just before a deal completes ? RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

This will happen when the '07 model is launched as the dealers still have '06 models to get rid of Crying or Very sad

In a few months the price will level out - He thinks he has you by the balls as TDV8 is hard to find - try selling it yourself!

I have suffered the same but on a Disco 2 - gone from 14,500 to 12,000 December to January - apparantly all 4x4s took a big hit in the January Cap guide - although BMW M5 were the worst.

I sneeked a look at a dealers Glasses guide when I was in last week, and left alone for a few minutes. It was the Jan 2007 issue, and a 2005, 55reg TDV6 HSE, with 16K miles, was listed as £39450, (I think in excellent cond, which they all should be).

Im going to sell mine in a few weeks, probably advertise it for offers around £40,000, but its got virtually everything on it, looks like a supercharged, (except a fake supercharged badge), and only 10.6K miles. Might even give ebay a go, but play it cautions.

prices are falling

it may be completely irrelevent, but since last friday I have received a phone call from my local LR dealer, and this morning a wad of publicity re the new freelander 2 . Are new sales slowing, or is this just a sales drive ??I personally think that all the press reports about global warming and 4x4s are slowly beginning to come through. Although it may not bother the most of us, people are now becoming aware that we are the most disliked people on earth (except jane goody) ,but buying a new 4x4 may just antagonize the crowd . So do I buy a new Aston Martin ???
Many years ago I bought a Rolls Royce, and the problems and aggrovation I had with driving that beautiful car were unbelievable, and in the end my wife would not go out in it , so I sold it and bought a new Mercedes Benz, and it cost a lot more, but voila, no more aggro!!!!!!!!!!1 So I think that jealosey is the main factor

I was told by a LR source that although there has been a lot of interest in the FL2 they were hoping for better sales.
It is being put down to the price, apparently a lot of people are saying "nice car but too expensive".
There are also concerns over some of the interior finishes and stories are already circulating about electronic problems Rolling Eyes
It must also be a big mistake not launching with a diesel auto.

Smarticus, didn't the dealer put your trade-in value on paper? Over here there is a provision in the new vehicle order form to fill in trade-in details. Both parties sign this document and it becomes legal.

If there is a delay in delivery the buyer has the option to back out of the deal. However, should you want to stick with the purchase there's nothing much the dealer can do. He has honour the trade-in value no matter what (presuming the vehicle is in reasonable condition as inspected earlier). Malaysia Boleh!

I suppose in hindsight, you should really have got the trade-in value in writing with clarification that it would not change if there was a situation such as this (which, let's be honest, is not at all unusual).
