Here is the answer from Urban Lee.

Good morning Paul,

We tend not to modify the exhausts on the SVRs as they have a valved exhaust system fitted as standard.

We are working on a modification to remove the baffles from the MY18 SVR to make it sound more aggressive.

Kind regards,

Sam SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Has yours arrived? Have you actually seen one in the flesh and did you come from the pre-facelift one? If you have, once you see the new one in the flesh you'll see although some of the new features are great, styling is not one of them, its been cheaped out and the seats are not good quality at all. Current

I haven’t seen the new one in the flesh but after seeing actual video footage of the MY18 my mind was made up not to pursue an order. I felt the new model lacked the aggressive stance and the seats looked like penny pinching compared to previous model
I intend to pick up a MY17 later in the year as they might have sorted all the software glitches out by then.

Completely agree. For a few months now I've been looking at tons of photos of the previous design and the 2018 update mostly to help decide on colour choice for my order. And really the old design was nice but it really looks outdated in comparison to the updates -- the rounded headlight shapes, smaller air intakes, and the wheel designs have aged. In general, all designs age whether good or bad. The MY18 updates make it a more sophisticated and modern design. The larger air intakes, bonnet vents, and if selecting the exposed carbon are actually more "aggressive", not less. I see a significant difference between the SVR front treatment and the regular Sport.

The painted rear diffuser gives the rear the appearance of being larger, higher (it's not obviously) as the painted region makes you see the portion that is lowest to the ground. I completely prefer this look. With so many car designs now using large rectangular faux exhaust tips the old small round ones are starting to look old as well. This trend will continue whether people like it or not.

And I don't mean any offense to anyone, but ultimately I don't really care if the average person out there can't tell the difference between my SVR and an ATB or entry level Sport. I'm not looking to get credit for the extra money spent. I prefer to be more stealthy and the reason I like Land Rovers is that they don't have over the top goofy styling like a BMW. The SVR is tasteful and the right balance.

I also don't care about the changes to the active exhaust in the MY18 mean revving it in P is not as loud as before. I care about hearing it when driving it hard and accelerating which is unchanged.

Many people on other forums and few on here have said the seats are a definite improvement. And as I've said before companies rarely make changes that are inferior to the older versions of products. I don't know why people think they would do that.

Design is all preference and the good thing is that there are plenty of 15-17 models to be had used if people prefer that but I'm really glad I waited for the updated version. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

Your comments on companies rarely make improvements that are inferior is normally true, but having owned RRSports for the best part of 16 years that is not the case with Land Rover, they seem to continuously try to cut costs and maximise profit at the expense of quality

Fair enough, it's possible. I had my L320 for 7 years and loved it and even those seats to me were better than my Audi S4 and S5. I absolutely loved them. I like the seats in my 2018 FE Velar and there is no sagging leather at all. They're perfect. I have seen the photos and videos of some bulging leather on the non SVR Sports and I really hope those are statistically small numbers. Agreed it's a quality issue. But it seems to me that Land Rover does well with their more expensive models and really struggles to maintain quality as you go down to the bottom of the lineup. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

Great comments but wait til you get one, seats are inferior no doubt ive owned high end range rovers for over 13 years, and on this occasion they got a lot wrong with the new SVR as well as some things right and I can make that comment as Im driving one daily, and owned the original one as well. Current

I guess I'll find out in May. Hard to know what to expect really as there are definitely different opinions about the seats from others who have had both. Great to hear your thoughts though. Super helpful.

For me, as long as the leather is not saggy and is tight, and the quality is at a minimum on par with my Velar I'll be satisfied. It's $40k more so I'd be shocked if they feel worse in quality and comfort. But yes, the cost cutting thing is something I overlooked and does happen. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

Hi no im not saying the seats are cr*p but on the original SVR the bucket seats were very well made, and the leather contouring and stitching was a work of art, much like the quaity on high end AMG's but on the new SVR and ive compared 3 in the flesh now, the stiching doesnt pull the leather right and the leather is too baggy for the bucket seats frame, theyve added alcantara panels to allow movement but this makes it worse, ill get some pictures up over the next few days and youll see what I mean.

I think they've tried to compromise and make them more comfortable and not as racy looking to maybe appeal to the masses but this then annoys the few, Current

Ah ok I see what you're saying. Thanks for the extra detail. Makes sense. I only test drove a 2017 and there is only so much detail you can take in during a test drive. Anyway I think the MY18 seats are supposed to be lighter too which might also make them feel cheaper, in addition to the stitching and other things you mentioned. A couple people have indeed said they are more "comfortable" for them but sometimes people like softer seats. I actually prefer firm seats like in German cars because that is what I got used to and I don't have any back issues and I'm not a big person.

I see why for owners of the last model a step backwards is annoying and disappointing. I'll be spared the comparison and will be distracted by driving like a nut until the novelty wears off... a little. 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR – Bosphorus Grey

Sam

Paul,

I have spoken to Sam and Simon at URBAN a few times since I saw and heard their MY18 SVR in February and that is the same answer they have been giving me. And clearly the more people that enquire the stronger the likelihood they will have this available soon - and clearly at a premium!

Cheers
