Hi all, sorry if this has been covered before I can’t seem to Find it in the search.

My brother in law has a RRS HSE 2010 and the screeching has happened when engaging the EPB. He has pulled the dissengage cable. He doesn’t really use the handbrake and just uses park as it’s an auto. Is there a way to stop the flashing red light and dash warning to put his handbrake on while he’s driving along?
Tried pulling FL8 but this makes the fuel gauge read empty?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

The epb should be used even though it`s auto...I`ve been told if it`s not it can cause issues. Sorry I haven`t answered your question...just passing on some knowledge as I currently have an issue too  Steve.

If parked on a slope then yes, use the EPB as the park lock pawl within the gearbox isn’t designed to hold the weight of the car. On level ground it’s ok to leave the EPB off and put the gearbox in Park

As for the OP’s warning light on the dash, search for Bodsys’ Brake Bible for some help. Sounds as though despite releasing the brake, the car still thinks the EPB is on.

The light is flashing as there is a fault in the system. Repair the fault, light goes out

Thanks for the responses. Today we stripped down to look at the shoes. All looks ok and readjusted as per Bodsy’s bible. Still have the screech.
Just another thought thought. Once the emergency pull has been used how does this reset?
I have read about mounting mode. Does it now need to go into mounting mode via a diagnostics to reset the emergency release by chance?

Just to close the loop on this one.
Stripped off the brakes again down to the backplates.Removed module bracket. Rotated the module and removed the cover. Cable was fully extended and the cable thread was locked up against the brass rod the motor turns. Unjamed this by rotating the brass rod and put the EpB into unjammed mode via diagnostic reader. Then into mounted mode and re assembled the module and refitted bracket along with all the shoes discs and pads.
Adjusted shoes again.

Epb is fine now.

PTN, this was a royal pain in the butt. The module bracket screws were very rusted in and took very carefull extraction. The module cover is extremely difficult to remove as it is stuck tight with silicone. The fact that you can only acces this by putting you arms around a fixed cover underneath adds another piece on technical difficulty to the challenge.
Ordinarily the unjam should work via the diagnostic machine but the shoe adjustment must have been so far out the cable over an to the end and locked up on the brass rod.
Keep your handbrake shoes in adjustment to avoid this. The fact this module is located behind a bracket and facing the wrong way doesn’t help at all.
I would say unless you are very competent with the tools don’t attempt this on a range rover sport. Discos may be easier to do? Maybe Disco_mikey could advise as he seems to be a ninja with these EPB issues😀

I believe disco 3 and the sport use exactly the same brake system but i am wrong a lot

I was really thinking about orientation and ease of access might be a lot easier on a disco than a rrs
