Thinking of attending an Off Road Event

I am thinking of attending an off road event this weekend with my RRS S/C, I have never done anything like this before. Can anyone offer any advise please? Is it a good idea?? Question

This is the event I have in mind.. http://www.4x4driving.co.uk/location.htm

Before you do anything I would do a basic LR experience course first. I also notice that you have a S/C and so I guess you are on 20 inch tyres - I would not do any off roading in these, you will damage your wheels. Sorry to put you off but at a lot of these sites you have guys simply tearing aroung trying to put their cars through extremes, your RRS will do a lot but do you want to risk damage from doing things that you don't know your car will do. Also check your insurance, most insurance polices will not cover you - if you have LR insurance you will be covered. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Agree 100% with VA, have a go in one of the LRE's cars before attempting it in your own pride and joy. Your other option is to take your RRS along to the event you were thinking of joining in on and explain that you haven't driven offroad before and ask if somebody would take you round the course in their car. Whatever you do, do not be persuaded to let them see what your RRS can do offroad - rest assured from those of us who have, they are very very good at it.
LRE days can be booked any time, any day of the week to suit you through the Land Rover website and there are 10 locations round the country. A weekend is a good time to go as you can then make an event of it, most LRE's are in fantastic locations and there are usually some pretty classy hotels nearby so your missus can have a nice time too 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

You'l be ok at the Canyon as its a chalk pit, don't go to Slindon though. They do driver training, the guy who owns it has a very nice FFRR, but I'm not so sure how good the instruction is in modern LRs with TR. If I were you I'd get your Level1 done with LRE, costs about £300 then join some of the events on here.

close,

I'm taking my RRS shortly too - I've been out with the serious boys already in some Defenders, plus have two LR Experience days booked (one in a FL2 though) to give me a feel for my RRS - then I'm going along with the Disco3 forum on Salisbury plains. I've taken the RRS around some of the fields behind me already, however the road tyres are a bit poor, so gave up until I get my MTR's.

If you fancy some 19's, then I have a contact who can source them (well, get them periodically when customers upgrade to 20's) for around £400 (inc. tyres) - my names down for the next set though Wink

Cheers

Kaine

VA Slindon I think would be a no no as I believe it is quite overgrown. The Canyon place maybe, but I don't know how big it is.

Kaine I think once you've been with LRE you will be very surprised how much you can do with standard tyres, particularly if you read the terrain well. On the first Salisbury trip mine were better than SST trod cars and on subsequent trips I've not had any trouble keeping up. Where MTRs score is their puncture resistance and when the gowing gets really really tough. When I shoot I regularly follow MTR equipped cars and have never had any problems, even if they have. It does take some time to get used to driving a TR equipped car offroad though.

Thanks for your reply. I've read similar comments already so I'll be able to compare this shortly

Cheers
