Anyone with an MY16 up got the TV option in their RRS? Is it worth having or just a gimmick? Im guessing it catches freeview channels only?

I don't have it in my current RRS but had the same system in both my previous Evoques as it was part of the Lux pack - I very rarely used it as 90% of the time I am alone in the car so really only benefited from it when parked. Where I live I got good reception on it with all the usually non subscription digital channels however I have been told by many people that the reception is pretty dire when moving. With the dual view screen the driver can hear the audio side - so if you are an avid Corrie or Eastenders fan you can listen to but not see every episode - while driving. It is an additional entertainment when in slow moving traffic (driver can see the video when doing less than 5mph IIRC) or stopped for a long while in traffic jams but you still have to leave the engine running to avoid the 10 minute rule! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

When stationary it's fine, when crawling in traffic if can be ok, but when moving it's pretty useless as a picture (and usually audio) stops as soon as the signal degrades, unlike analogue which just got worse, and the signal strength is much more sensitive to position. 

I have it. It's a tricky one to size up really, and I think it will come down to your personal circumstances.

I have two kids, the 3yr old sits in the front with me, whilst my missus sits in the back so she can tend to the 6mth old. On long/boring journeys the TV is invaluable to keep the 3yr entertained (unless we're travelling at night when he can sleep).

It's DTV, so it's freeview, and the channel choice is very good. You can store your favourites in the same way you do Radio stations etc. If you're going to spec it then I recommend speccing with the dual view, which is also excellent as you get headphones that the passenger can wear to watch the TV whilst you have the screen showing sat nav etc without you being interrupted by the noise of the TV.

The reception on mine has been ok so far, the only time I had problems was on New Years day when we had the ridiculous storms and I was travelling south on the M40, it cut out a few times in the torrential rain. Other than that it's been fine.

With some in-car TV's for the driver to view it the car has to be stationary with the handbrake on, but with the RRS it works when the car is stationary (no handbrake needed) or travelling at under 5/10mph. When it goes over the screen flips off on the driver view, with the passenger uninterrupted.

The resolution on the MY16 screen isn't that great, but TBH you don't need good resolution for Paw Patrol and Blaze, so I'm happy. When my baby is older and my other half comes back into the front of the car with me, I doubt we'll use it, so I'll be looking to change to rear media instead, probably a couple of iPads if I can find some decent/safe mounts.

The only other minor problem is the angle of the screen, even though my 3yr old sits in a big 2-3 carseat, if he's reclining back then the pitch of the screen makes it difficult for him to see, so he has to sometimes sit forward ever so slightly.

So its horses for courses really. I am about to finalise the spec on my MY17.5 (March 2017 delivery) replacement for my MY15 and was thinking about adding the TV as spend a lot of time on weekends parked up outside waiting for my kids to finish, Piano, Swimming, Gymnastics etc etc. At the moment I use Sky Go or BT sport and watch PL football with easy on my Iphone 7 Plus screen whilst waiting in the car.

I once had a demo MY16.5 with a TV and dual view however, compared to my MY15 the screen resolution with the dual view was horrendous and I don't think I could live with that. I have been trying to locate a dealer with an MY17 with the new ICTP wide screen Nav system who can show me a car with dual view on the new system as I am hoping it would be much better than the older system but no dealer has a demo yet.

I think I'll play it safe and stick to my Iphone 7 plus which does the job just fine. We have no need to watch TV on the go as the girls are grown up now.

BTW - If anyone on here with an MY17 and TV with dual view can comment on resolution compared to the older version that would be great!

I recall reading somewhere that the resolution was less on the dual view screen? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

That's correct Wilf..resolution on both the FFRR and the RRS dual view screens post MY17 was horrendous...Would therefore be interesting to hear from anyone with an MY17 and dual view as to what the resolution is like now as completely new hardware.

I have a friend who has had two Evoques, both with the Lux pack which included the TV. I agree with the comments above in that it's a bit of a novelty in that it only works at slow speed and for 10 minutes when parked up. Running a rattly 2.2 diesel Evoque to watch the TV while parked isn't ideal.

However...my friend had a little plug and play box that fitted behind the dash that interrupted the speed signal to the TV and allowed it to work while driving at any speed. My friend is a fairly reliable chap, always drives on green lanes and not easily distracted by an occasional glance down at the screen while keeping up with the soundtrack. If you were also of the hard to distract type, this may well be an option to create better use from the TV option.

A quick Google should identify where my friend might have purchased such a box.
