Anyone know what this cable release is for? It's under the bonnet, under the engine cover...

Guess it might be transmission manual park release?? 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

hello all

after I had my oil 11000km in the engine (SDV6 306hp) I did an oil analysis. the result was: 3.7% oil dilution. I decided now to do an intermediate oil change every 7000km by myself. doing about 20000km per year means, that I will do 2 changes and the 3rd will be done by the dealer.

the workshop manual says the below points (in summary) - I have added some questions marked with "Q". I hope that someone can clarify it.
just for your information: I am technophil but haven't done a oil change before Smile

- Make sure engine is warm
- Using the vacuum oil pump drain the oil
Q: before change drive it for about 10km and then leave it for 5min - after that vacuum the oil? or how do you do it?
Q: Before vacuum draining - should the oil cap be released or can I leave the oil cap in closed position?

- Rotate the oil filter element housing six complete turns counter-clockwise.
- Allow the engine oil to drain from the oil filter element housing for two minutes. Remove the oil filter element housing
Q: If I leave the filter element housing to drain for 2min - how much oil will flow into the motor? should I vacuum again to get the whole amount of oil out of the motor?

- Replace the filter with new filter and O-ring (lubricate it)
- Fill the engine with the recommended oil to the correct level
Q: Do you fill up with 6 liters from beginning or do you fill up with 5.5l, start the engine, stop it and then fill the 0.5l? The amout of fresh oil is 6l

- Start the engine and allow to run for 10 minutes, stop the engine
Q: should I idle it in park position or drive it for about 10kms?

- Check oil in service level
- Update average oil level value
Q: is it a must to update the average oil level value after changing it?

General question: do you always use a genuine LR filter (build by Mann) or do you use an aftermarket product also? I am thinking about to order a Mann filter online with the recommended oil

thank you for your support Smile
cheers

Thank you both

The TDV8 thread I will read

Yes, I have seen a picture of the original oil filter - it has a stamp from Mann

As mentioned... I am looking for my driving behavior to reduce oil dilution, but I was surprised that I had 3.7% after 11000km. It's for me personally to much so I decided to change every 7000km Range Rover Sport HST D350
