Windscreen wiper speed control

We have had a lot of rain lately and I have noticed that the windscreen wipers will at time run flat out no matter what the rain intensity is. The speed adjustment on the stork does not seem to make a difference. I find I have to turn the wiper of and then on again to correct this issue. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I had the same issue recently, found it was due to wiper blades smearing the sensor area, so sensor puts the wiper in to max. Cleaned the wiper blade and that resolved the issue.

I use Rain-X and don't bother with the wipers much at all. The heavier the rain, the better it works. I have found the rake of the RR Sport windscreen is ideal for the wind to blow away the water. I find that most "auto" rain sensing wipers are way too sensitive for my liking... 2017 MY17 SDV6 SE

I don't bother with the auto wiper setting. Too sensitive at motorway speeds and not sensitive enough at 30mph. I can see when there's water on the windscreen and it isn't too much of an effort to extend a finger to switch the wipers on myself. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Generally, I like auto wipe, but one thing that puzzles me is that it sometimes comes on in direct bright sunlight on a bone dry screen. Any suggestions as to why this would happen? (I wondered if it was to do with dust).

If you don't like auto settings, buy a Volvo. Their auto wiper settings cancel every time you switch off the engine....
