Rear ACE leak repair

My 08 RRS HSE has suffered a leak somewhere at the rear. The ACE reservoir is 2/3rds empty and oil dripping from the rear and red malfunction light on. Guess either the ACE rear unit seals have failed or a pipe has let go?

it is safe for me to drive home this week 160 miles?

Anybody know of good independent in Leicestershire area?

Or a good independent in Suffolk where I work?

160 miles with it leaking and I would've thought that the system would run dry. Then you're looking at £1000 for a new pump (that doesn't include fitting).

I don't know of any garages in your area, so I can't help in that regards. I really wouldn't drive it too far though, certainly with the red warning on the dash.

You might be lucky and it could be one of the oil seals for the feed pipes that attach to the ace bar. That being said the rear bar is the easiest and quickest to replace, so labour shouldn't be to bad if the worst comes to the worst. Rear ace bar is around £800, if you need one buy new, a second hand one may already leak or start leaking not long after fitting. Do it right do it once Thumbs Up

I would say it was safe. I drove for quite a while with mine leaking, without any adverse effects whilst I booked a space at my garage. I suggest you get the reservoir topped up but iirc it takes some special fluid, so ensure you use that.

When you come to get a new one, go on eBay and you can get the same make as the OE rear ACE, just not LR branded, for about £785 inc VAT/del. Reasonable discount on the £1200+VAT from a dealer.

Thanks for the replies. Is there any way of pulling a fuse to disable the ACE pump?

Nope, it's belt driven.

If you really must drive, make sure the reservoir is topped up (stop every couple of miles or so, you'll soon know how far you can go based on fluid loss) and try to take corners as gently as possible so as to avoid the ace system trying to prevent body roll.

I managed to look more closely under the sport this weekend and it looks like it is one of the pies that is leakingk. The ends of the unit look dry but there is a regular drop of fluid dripping of one of the pipes.

Any information on where the pipes go to and how hard to change, part numbers etc. Any help would be most appreciated.

It depends which pipe it is. Some require the body to be lifted, others can be changed simply with spanners or pliers.

Front pipes can be bought individually, but also as a set of 4
Look carefully at the rest of the pipework, I'm sure you will see they are all quite corroded, and risk breaking them while replacing a single pipe...

The go from the valve block under the drivers seat, 2x to the front actuator, 1x to the HP pipe from the pump, and the last to the reservoir
Dine quite a few sets now. Not particularly difficult, but rather time consuming and fiddly. And the pipes tend to stick into the valve block Big Cry

I wasn't aware you could replace the front pipes individually, I thought they had to be bought as a set under part number: RQA500018

If you could provide the part numbers for the return and high pressure pipe that would be great. Bow down

LR019389 - HP pipe - £130 + VAT retail
LR019388 - to actuator "B" - £184
LR019387 - to actuator "A" - £184
LR020003 - to reservoir - £136

RQA500018 - pipe set - £258 + VAT

Cheaper to buy the whole lot, as well as being much quicker and easier to fit Wink

I hadn't realised that the pipes come away from the bracket that holds all 4 pipes to the valve block... Embarassed
