Lacquer coming off front bumper

Noticed just before Christmas that the lacquer was coming off the front bumper. It is in 3 patches near the number plate. 1 is approx 4" round the other 2 are approx 2" round. There is also 3 more patches on the corner of the bumper, these are much smaller. Took to dealer, they took pictures and sent to L/R. They said not a warranty issue. I rang L/R customer service. After about 6 weeks of back and forth with 1 phone call every week, they said still not their issue. They had reviewed the photos and said it looks like an outside influence. I have offered to meet with one of their own engineers, but they are not interested. As far as they are concerned the issue is closed! Banging Head
I have just had the car at a local bodywork centre and they agree this looks like a paint/lacquer issue.
The car is just over 2.5 yrs old. I have had it since new.
This is my 7th land rover. The wife also has a Discovery sport we bought last yr. I have to say not impressed with L/R customer care!

Has anyone else had similar issues with Lacquer?

Can anyone advise how I can take this further? RRS2 AB Firenze Red

Threaten to sue them in the Small Claims Court. First, you have to notify them in writing of what you require in settlement, giving them 14 days to respond. If they fail to respond, or you don't accept their resolution, you are free to proceed. The threat of being sued may well make them settle. However, if not, it's easy to do on-line, you have to pay a small fee related to the cost of your claim, but that's all you can lose even if you don't win the claim. If you win, they pay your fee and any costs, as well as whatever you claimed. I've done this twice (not involving JLR I should stress, but other big national companies) and neither even responded to the summons and therefore I won both times by default.

It also works (while we are still in the EU) if you want to sue a European Union based company. A friend had to sue a well know Swedish manufacturer of domestic appliances for a deep freeze that was made by them, supplied and fitted to a 42ft sailing boat in Gan Canaria by their distributor, which failed 3 weeks later after sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. My friend went through the procedure Donny describes and Electrolux laughed at him when he went to court in Oban in Scotland. The company obviously didn't know where Oban is and failed to turn up for the case, which they lost and then got hammered with a contempt of court as well. Cost of the deep freeze was repaid with compensation within days to avoid the contempt of court charge........... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

So could this be damage by dealer prior to delivery. Isn't paint warranted for 3 years?

I'd say it is a respray after factory build? Check the paint thickness Gone:

Thanks folks.

Funny you should say about the repaint on delivery as that was exactly what the paint guy at the body shop said Very Happy

Think I will try the small claims court. Will let you know how I get on. RRS2 AB Firenze Red

paint laquer coming off

Mine did it last August, gave up with LR garage and customer service - useless. I was going to use a motor specialist for a report and thickness check and he said many are touched up after build. Mine was a lack of bond due to too much time between coats.
Cancelled buying a new RRS and I am having a good respray across the front as no more areas have arisen.
There is only negative responses to a number of issues on this car from LR, including the leather seat sagging etc. Wasted my time on them and never again, the whole range is being de valued due to quality and additional models.

Mine did this as well, turned out they had damaged it (or someone driving it as a demo car had) and they'd had a mobile repair done on it.

To be fair, they did repair it with no argument so I can't fault them for that... 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography
